Mt. Olive Cathedral C.M.E. Church




BOARD OF CHRISTIAN EDUCATION 

This organization is responsible for developing and promoting programs of Christian teaching and learning throughout the church.

Locations and Date(s) of Meeting: Mt. Olive CME on the 1st Saturday of each month from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.

GENERAL SUPERINTENDENT OF SUNDAY CHURCH SCHOOL

This organization is a place to learn God’s word and how to apply it in life. Sunday School convenes every Sunday @ 9:00 a.m.

STEWARD BOARD

This organization is responsible for making sure the funds are available for the ongoing work of the church.

STEWARDESS BOARD

This board is responsible for helping to prepare the Lord's Table on Communion Sunday. This board is also responsible for helping to assist the pastor in taking communion to the homebound members.

TRUSTEE BOARD

This organization is responsible for the upkeep of the church property.

MISSIONARY SOCIETY

This organization identifies the missions of the church and makes the church aware of these issues.

The Women’s Missionary Council of the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church will share the good news, salvation through Jesus Christ with unsaved men, women, and children at home and aboard by using the processes and program outlined in the Bible, the Book of Discipline of the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church and the Constitution and Bylaws of the Women’s Missionary Council.

Location and Dates(s) of Meeting: Mt. Olive Cathedral - 4th Saturday each month at 10:00 AM.

CHRISTIAN YOUTH FELLOWSHIP

This organization is responsible for the training of our young people for Christian experiences in live and to help them develop into well-rounded Christian adults.

CHOIRS

These organizations are responsible for providing the music in the church. There are two choirs:

Sanctuary Choir —to sing each Sunday during service, also to sing for some special occasions, and to support the pastor when he has to speak at another church. Location and Date(s) of Meeting: Mt. Olive Church - 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th Thursday each month at 6:00 p.m. Ensemble of Praise —to serve God through song and praise through traditional and contemporary music. Location and Date(s) of Meeting: Mt. Olive Church on 3rd Thursday of each month.

USHER BOARD

This organization is responsible for helping the services and programs of the church run smoothly by their expert direction.

LAY COUNCIL

This organization is responsible for informing all members of the church to their association as lay people and therefore part of the building up of the life of the church. The Lay Council meets every first Saturday in each month at the church. The time of the meeting is 9 o’clock.

COMMISSION ON MEMBERSHIP & EVANGELISM

This organization is responsible for identifying and recognizing those members who have lost contact with the church and helping the new members to integrate successfully into the life of the church. This organization also helps the pastor and members revive the church body through revivals and programs of spiritual renewal.

BROTHERHOOD ORGANIZATION

This organization of men of the church assist the church in welcoming members and quests to services and programs and also assist wherever needed.

COLLEGE STUDENT MINISTRY

The College Student Ministry was organized five years ago under the leadership of Rev. John Marshall Gilmore to continue the support to all college students who are members of Mt. Olive C.M.E. Church that was initiated and implemented by the Madonna Guild. The ministry support focuses on keeping the students close to us while they are enrolled in the college or university of their choice and providing them support and assistance as needed. Activities include: student-mentoring, provision of tapes of sermons; sending cards for birthdays and holidays; and highlighting their accomplishments in the church bulletin. The idea is to provide a nurturing environment so that the students will remain true to their Christian training wherever they are and hopefully remain as active and supportive members of Mt. Olive . Location and Date(s) of Meeting: Meet bi-monthly or as needed. Meetings are held immediately after church service on designated Sundays in the church sanctuary. 

FINANCE COMMITTEE

This organization is responsible for counting the donations to the church each Sunday.

HOSTESS BOARD

This organization is responsible for making members and guests feel welcome in the church. They provide a fellowship ministry of socializing after the worship experience each Sunday so that members and potential members can get to now each other better.

MADONNA GUILD

To give Christian service and fellowship to it’s members, the church, and the greater Memphis community. Location and Dates of Meetings: Meet at the church on the 3rd Sunday of each month, except during the summer months, following the morning worship service.

MT. OLIVE/LINDENWOOD CHRISTIAN CHURCH PARTNERSHIP

To foster unity and Christian fellowship by promoting racial/ethnic harmony between a predominately African-American and Caucasian church congregation. This is accomplished through social activities, community service and religious programs.

Location and Date(s) of Meeting: All interested energetic persons are welcome. Meetings are held monthly on the 3rd Sunday of each month. Location varies between Mt. Olive and Lindenwood Christian Church.

This organization provides food and clothing to the needy of our community.

This organization provides services to the church where needed.

Location & Date of Meetings: Meet at the church on the 2nd Sunday of each month following the morning service.

MEDIA MINISTRY

This organization provides services to the church as needed.
