Our Mission:
Lord of Life Lutheran Church exists to lead unsaved people to Jesus and to equip the believers for effective ministry. Our Vision:
Our vision is that Lord of Life be a caring family of Christ that nurtures its membership through meaningful worship, fellowship, education, and communication so that Lord of Life can serve the spiritual and physical needs of the community.
Our Affiliation
Lord of Life Lutheran Church is part of "The Lutheran Church Missouri Synod." This world-wide denomination was founded in 1847 in Missouri, therefore the name, "Missouri Synod." Today the "LCMS" is a diverse church body of 2.7 million members in 6,300 North American congregations. The Synod carries out mission work literally around the world. The "Lutheran Church Missouri Synod" is an association of congregations formed to walk together and help one another accomplish mission and ministry that each congregation cannot do as well alone. The LCMS trains pastors, teachers, and professional church workers; trains and sends out missionaries; prepares Bible Class, Sunday School, confirmation, and other educational materials; conducts radio, television, and video ministry; conducts social ministry programs; maintains a strong chaplaincy program in institutions and in the armed forces; works to alleviate world hunger and poverty through relief programs; and is involved in many other areas of ministry.
Key to the life of a congregation is its service (ministry) to God and to people. Below is a listing of various areas of ministry we have here at Lord of Life.
CHRISTIAN EDUCATION
On July 18, 2004 we installed our first Director of Christian Education, Mr. Al Muck. Al works with our Board of Youth and our Board of Education. He guides Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. Mr. Al is frequently seen leading Chapel services for our preschool and Kids Day out programs.
MUSIC MINISTRY AT LORD OF LIFE

There are many opportunities to serve in the music ministry at Lord of Life under the direction of Karen Stevenson, Director of Music.
The Sanctuary Choir rehearses every Wednesday evening at 7:15PM September through May and sings regularly for Sunday worship. This choir is open to high school age and older and prepares a variety of classical and contemporary sacred choral music. No audition is required.
The Praise Team serves as musical leadership for music that is more contemporary and less traditional or formal. With this group you can sign in and out as your schedule allows and we serve throughout the year. We are currently accepting new singers high school age and older and would also welcome instrumentalists especially a guitarist to be a part of the Praise Band.
The Handbell Choir is a group of 10 ringers of all ages playing 3 octaves of Schulmerich handbells. This choir rehearses every Tuesday at 7:15 PM September through May and rings regularly in Sunday morning worship. We have limited openings for ringers at this time.
Ah-men quartet is a barbershop gospel style men’s quartet that consists of Wayne Okimi, John Koski, Darrell Schelp, and Don Paul. These men have sung together for several years and have become a popular and admired specialty group. They meet about every other Saturday sing for Sunday morning worship regularly September through May.
For information about any of the musical groups please contact Karen Stevenson at kjstevenson@charter.net.
EARLY CHILDHOOD MINISTRY
Lord of Life's Early Childhood Ministry continues to expand. The "Kids' Day Out" program is for two and three year olds while the "Preschool" for three and four year olds. Purpose of this important ministry is "to provide a safe, loving, stimulating, and maturing Christian atmosphere so children may grow emotionally, intellectually, and physically at their own rate as they learn and play." Director of Lord of Life's Early Childhood Ministry is Elaine Robertson.
CIRCLE OF CONCERN
Lord of Life is a member of the West County Circle of Concern. Circle of Concern is a group of over thirty churches in the West St Louis County area banding together to provide assistance to needy families and individuals in the Parkway, Rockwood, and Valley Park school districts. Part of Lord of Life's support takes the form of participation in a "Meal-A-Month" program. This involves bringing suggested items each month for the Circle's food pantry. Meal-A-Month plastic bags with suggested menus attached are distributed on the first Sunday of each month and are to be returned to church by the last Sunday of the month.
FELLOWSHIP ACTIVITIES
Regular fellowship activities take place at Lord of Life. An important part of our fellowship happens just prior to and just after worship services in our spacious narthex as people greet one another and share with one another. There are also many scheduled activities. Some of these involve events sponsored by various groups and organizations such as dinners, receptions after services, an annual church festival, etch. Past adult fellowship activities have included pool parties, Christmas parties, Cardinal baseball games, progressive dinners, costume parties, outings to the Fox Theater or Powell Hall, float trips, etc.
YOUTH MINISTRY
Youth Ministry at Lord of Life takes the form of three youth groups.
1) IMPACT 56 is the newest group at Lord of Life. This group is for 5th & 6th graders.
2) IMPACT 78. This group is for 7th & 8th graders. They have an active social calendar with a great balance of spiritual activities. Sunday morning class is fun and active as it drives home the key point for the day. Other special activities include leading portions of worship through drama and music, service hours, and parental involvement.
3) The grade 9-12 group is called IMPACT. This group promotes Christian fellowship, spiritual and personal growth, and service to the congregation and the community. District Youth Gatherings and National Youth Gatherings are held every three years.
CONFIRMATION INSTRUCTION
Confirmation is not what it used to be (that's for sure.) Through visual sensation, music, games, and competiton, the students are impacted by God's Word to grow closer to God by connecting their heads and their hearts. Pastor Rogers will teach the 8th grade class this and Director or Christian Education, Al Muck, will teach the 7th grade class.
Regular confirmation instruction for all the congregation's seventh and eighth graders takes place on Wednesdays, 6:30-8:00 PM, during the school year. The confirmation of eighth graders takes place on Palm Sunday each year.
Realizing that confirmation is more a matter of the heart than of the head, special confirmation classes for those who learn differently are scheduled on an as-needed basis.
Several opportunities for adults to become members of the Lutheran Church are also offered each year, with a minimum of one in the fall and one in the spring.
SUNDAY SCHOOL
Lord of Life has a growing Sunday School! Classes for all ages two through adult are conducted each Sunday morning at 9:15 AM. Curriculum for the lower grades assures a well-rounded Christian education. Upper grades, the high school class, and the adults study various topics of interest. Biblical books, family life issues, and timely topics are all part of the Sunday School experience. The people at Lord of Life believe that no one is either too young or too old for Christian education! The Sunday School Superintendent is Ken Rosemann.
VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL
A week of Vacation Bible School is offered each summer for children age three through the sixth grade. Fun, games, crafts, refreshments, and music complement the study of God's Word during this exciting week.
Vacation Bible School is held the third full week in July.
"FAMILY FILMS" VIDEOS
Lord of Life makes available to the community a series of a dozen "Family Films" videos through the video department at Dierberg's Marketplace. The videos for children convey a clear Christian message. The videos can be rented free of charge when another video is rented at Dierberg's. We encourage members to take advantage of these videos. They can be found in the "Inspirational" section of Dierberg's video department.
THURSDAY MORNING BIBLE STUDY
Thursday mornings at 9:30 is the time a group has gotten together for the past several years for Bible Study at Lord of Life. Over the years, a number of books of the Bible has been studied. The Bible study normally includes study questions, open discussion, and comments from the leader -- usually Pastor Rogers.
"COGS" are Home Based Bible Study and Fellowship Groups
Lord of Life has a growing small group ministry. Home Bible study groups known by the acronym COGS (Care and Outreach Groups) number between six and 12 people. Study topics include such things as "Stress" and "Wholeness." These groups are proving to be great places for friendships to develop and personal growth to take place. Most of the groups meet twice per month. If you would like to lead or join a group or find out more, give the church office a call.
PRAYER
A prayer chain is maintained by some of Lord of Life's faithful members. If you have a special request you would like to place on the prayer chain, please call us @ 636-532-0400.
FIELD EDUCATION STUDENTS
One blessing of Lord of Life's being located in the St. Louis area is its proximity to Concordia Seminary in Clayton. Concordia is one of the two major seminaries of The Lutheran Church -- Missouri Synod. Our congregation is in partnership with the seminary through the Field Education Program. This program functions to provide seminary students with the opportunity to observe and practice skills of the pastoral ministry firsthand. Normally, one first year student and one second year student are assigned to Lord of Life at any given time. The students are involved at the congregation in various ways including leading worship, occasional preaching, teaching Sunday School, attending meetings, etc. We welcome these students among us as they prepare to enter the pastoral ministry of The Lutheran Church -- Missouri Synod.
RETURN TO BETHLEHEM
In 2007, almost 2000 community members joined us to tour the City of Behtlehem in our Fellowship Hall. During this is an inside tour they heard costumed, live actors tell the story of the night Jesus was born. The 12 minute walking tour that ended at the manger where our guests saw see Baby Jesus, Mary and Joseph and even a live donkey. This was our 15th year for this production, our gift to the community.
