Baptism
When parents bring their child at baptism they make a public commitment to providing a home and and example that will awaken in the child a capacity to love and a desire to live for justice and the well-being of all. The parents commit to raising their child as a part of the Christian family, and we as part of the wider church family commit to helping them.

At Mill Woods United Church all parents requesting baptisms for their children should contact the church either by phone at (780) 463-2202 or by e-mail at church office. The church administrator will require some information from you regarding your child (in order to complete a baptismal certificate), and will then pass the information on to our minister. All families requesting baptism must have a visit by the minister and will also be required to attend a pre-baptism information session at the church. Infant baptisms are usually scheduled for the third Sunday of most months.

In the United Church, we believe all infants are blessed and known by God. Baptism is not necessary to remove the stain of original sin from a child or to protect a child from evil. In baptism we celebrate the love that God already has for the child.

Persons of any age are invited to be initiated into the Christian church by baptism. Adults being baptised must engage in a program of study prior to the ceremony. For adults, a Profession of Faith is part of the practice of baptism. A Basic Beliefs Study is offered at Mill Woods United in the fall and spring of each year for adults wishing to pursue membership into the United Church of Canada. You can contact the church office for more information about the next session. Adult baptism and confirmation is held twice yearly, following completion of the Basic Beliefs Study.

The use of cameras, camcorders, or tape recorders during the Sacrament of Baptism in the Sanctuary, is discouraged as it interferes with the service. Please remember to turn off your cell phone and pager during the worship service. An opportunity will be made available after the service to have pictures taken with the Minister.
