First Time at Mill Woods United?

Please join us at a worship service or enjoy one of the spiritual development study groups, children's events or social events that are planned throughout the year.

Walking into a church for the first time (or for the first time in a long time) can be intimidating. Please be assured that at Mill Woods United Church you'll receive a warm, relaxed welcome. We're genuinely glad that you've chosen to worship with us, and we look forward to meeting you.

The Sanctuary is on the main floor of the building. As you enter from the foyer, a greeter will welcome you to the church. You will have the opportunity to hang your coat up and then one of our Action Team members will hand you a bulletin, morning messenger and a Voices United hymn book as you enter the sanctuary. You may sit anywhere you choose, there is generally no reserved seating, except for baptism Sundays.

Clothing styles of those in attendance run a wide spectrum from shorts and T-shirts to coat and tie. Please dress in a way that is comfortable for you.

The church bulletin is the basic guide to the service. The service, including some prayers and responses are printed there. Most of the music we sing is from the Voices United or More Voices hymn books. Sometimes we will sing from other sources and then the text is projected on the wall at the front of the church.

We invite you to participate in whatever way helps you best worship God. Each person finds different expressions meaningful: generally we stand when we sing and sit during the remainder of the service, but you are free to do what is most comfortable for you.

Each service often begins with a musical prelude at which time anyone who would like to come forward to light a candle in prayer are welcome to do so. You will then be welcomed to the service and there will be some announcements given about church activities.

Shortly after the Call to Worship and Prayer of Approach, the children will be called forward to the Sea of Galilee for the children’s time and to participate in a song. Following this all children ages 3 years and up are invited to participate in our Sunday School during the 10:30 service. (Blue Jean Club during the summer months.)

During each service, a monetary collection is taken to support the work of our church and missionary activities. We do not ask that you contribute. It is the sole responsibility of our members to support our church.

You are welcome to take communion as you wish. You may take the bread and juice, the bread only, or not go up for communion at all. The communion table is God's table, and no one will be turned away.

Whether you are from Mill Woods, Edmonton and vicinity or from far away, we would appreciate your taking a moment to sign your name on the Who’s There in the Chair when it is passed around. Don't worry, we won't "hound" you after you do. We just like to keep track of who our guests are and where they come from.
