"Partners on a Faith Journey"

Worship
Worship is the heart of the Christian community's experience.
It is a time to come together and reflect on the Creator's continuing presence in our lives…
To offer our praise and thanks for God's blessings…
To seek and discern God's will for our lives…
To simply be.

Sunday Worship
During the summer months (June, July and August) we offer just one service on Sunday mornings at 10:00 a.m. It follows the basic format of the 10:30 a.m. services described below but instead of  Sunday school we have a Blue Jean Club for the children. Many activities will take place outside, weather permitting, so please dress your children accordingly.

9:00 a.m.
Our 9:00 a.m. service is of an informal nature. Designated as an "Early Alternative Service" you can expect to experience worship in many different ways including walking a labyrinth and experiencing aTaize service. Coffee and  muffins are available during the service, we sing a variety of music, pray, listen to scripture readings and enjoy a message from the minister. Language is inclusive and the length of the service is 45 minutes.

10:30 a.m.
Our 10:30 a.m. worship service can include readings from the Old and New Testaments, a Psalm, a sermon based on the day's scriptures, congregational prayers, congregational hymns and a choral anthem. This service tends to be more traditional, however we do use inclusive language. A Children's Story-time and and a full choir (September to June) are also a part of this service. Sunday school and Nursery are available during this service.

Communion
At the Last Supper, Jesus celebrated Passover with his disciples and invited them to break bread and drink wine together in remembrance of Him. We observe this sacrament in the United Church. At Mill Woods United Church, we practice an "open table," that is, we invite all those who seek to follow in Christ's way to take communion. Membership, baptism or confirmation is not required.

Communion is usually served by intincture. This is where a small piece of bread is dipped into grape juice and consumed. At the 9:00 a.m. service, communion is offered the first Sunday of every month and the elements provided can be a variety of breads and juices.

At the 10:30 a.m. service communion is offered several times a year, including World-wide Communion Sunday. Those attending the service are invited to come to several stations around the Sanctuary. At each station, two servers hold the elements. Once you have taken a piece of bread, dipped it into the cup of grape juice and eaten it, you return to your seatl Lay leaders watch for those who might have difficulty in leaving their seats and bring the elements to those members of the congregation. As an alternative to intincture, traditional trays with cubes of bread and small glasses of juice are passed amongst the congregation.
