Small Group Ministry People new to the congregation may find that joining one of these small group ministries is an excellent way to begin to feel a part of our community. Our small groups include:
Affirm Team This group grew out of a faith study (Together in Faith) in the spring of 2004, and as a result of the Board's goal in their long range planning process to "explore the possibility of becoming an affirming congregation". This group worked at learning all they could around the topics of sexual orientation and what was required to become an Affirming congregation. Education of the congregation was crucial and after two years of organizing education sessions, home meetings, and numerous newsletter articles on June 4, 2006 at our Annual General Meeting a motion was made to become an Afirming Congregation of the United Church of Canada. The vote was 80% in favor of the motion. The work of this team continues as they keep in regular touch with other groups working to support the LGBT community and to cooperate with them/help out in various ways. They continue to plan education sessions at the church and they are always on the look-out to find ways of ensuring our church is welcoming to all! If you are interested in becoming a part of this ministry group please contact the church office.
Book Club This group meets approximately once every 4-6 weeks from September through May. The next book is The Choice by Nicholas Sparks. We will be meeting for discussion on Thursday, April 24 at 1:30 p.m. in the church lounge. We invite anyone who is interested. There is no charge to join and most books are available from the public library. For more information contact the church office
Heavenly Hospitality This group was started in February 1994 with the mandate to take charge and organize the kitchen in our new building. They would purchase new equipment as required, maintain a standard stock of items to be used for lunches, create menus that could be used for groups booking space in our building, do some fundraising and above all else to have fun together. Since those early days this group of hard working and fun-loving women have provided thousands of meals to a wide group of people and organizations. They have catered lunches, dinners, funerals and weddings. They also have provided food for other fundraising groups within the church and have provided meals for Habitat for Humanity and for "Faith Lift" a United Church sponsored student group at the University of Alberta. If you like to have fun, are not afraid of a little work and would like to join these women in their endeavors, please contact the church office
Women's Fellowship This is a very information group that invites you to join them on the third Saturday morning of each month from 10:00 - 11:30 a.m. for coffee and fellowship at Cappuccino Affair, 4341 - 50 Street. Feel free to bring a friend.
