The Alpha Course 2008
Don't Miss - An opportunity to explore the meaning of life!
Would you like to experience 12 evenings that could very well change your life?
Have you had questions of life and death and didn't know who to ask?
Then the Alpha Course is for you!
Alpha is a twelve week course in basic Christianity which was developed at Holy Trinity Brompton, an Anglican Church in London England. Since its birth over 17 years ago, Alpha has become a popular program in many different churches of all denominations, all over the world. Over two million have taken the course. The Anglican Parishes of Waterford and St. Marks, sponsors of this course, have been offering Alpha for over ten years.
Alpha is based on the idea that people have questions and that they need a friendly, enjoyable and safe place to ask them. That’s why each week begins at 6pm with a meal that is provided at no cost. The meal is followed by some announcements, a joke (often bad) and some good music. Then, by video, the course’s teacher, Nicky Gumbel presents a talk after which we eat again (this time dessert) and spend the remainder of the evening (until 8:30) talking about questions you might have. There is no pressure to talk and many people just listen.
It is for those wanting to investigate the Christian Faith, new Christians and those who want to brush up on the basics of Christianity. Our course has no charge as it is a gift from our parish to the community.
This year's course starts Sunday evening, February 3rd at St. Mark's Hall in Sussex Corner, NB but there is an opportunity at 6pm of Sunday, January 27th to get a taste of Alpha at our Celebration Supper. If you are curious about the course contact us and we will save a seat for you. The Celebration Supper talk is Christianity: Boring, Untrue, Irrelevant?
