Pentecost Sunday!

Pentecost

Pentecost - Jesus Mafa, 1973

May 11th, the 50th day of Easter, is celebrated as Pentecost Sunday. Acts 2 tells the story of the first Christian Pentecost when the followers of Jesus experienced the dramatic presence of the Holy Spirit, just as Jesus had promised. Our 10:30 a.m. service will include Holy Communion and music by the First Baptist Senior Choir under the direction of Allen Wayte. John Gahan will give the Children's Story and Pauline Allsop will lead the service. My sermon, A Spirit-led Church, will explore the relevance of Pentecost for today's Church.

May 11: Pentecost Sunday; Communion
Acts 2:1-21; Psalm 104:24-34, 35b
1 Corinthians 12:3b-13; John 7:37-39

A Spirit-led Church - Rev. John E. Boyd
Music: Howels, Tallis, Fedak, Wayte

WORSHIPPING GOD

Weekly worship prepares us for daily service!

Worship in the Baptist tradition with an ecumenical flavour is the essence of our Sunday service at First Baptist Church Halifax. We feature a fine choir, biblically-based preaching, warm fellowship and meaningful liturgies tied to the Christian Year.

MAKING MUSIC TOGETHER

Choral and Organ Music have a long tradition at First Baptist.

Music is not only an integral part of worship, it is one of the creative languages of faith itself. We have four choirs. In addition to the Senior Choir (age 15+), there is a Junior Choir (age 7-14), PK Choir (age 2-6) and a Men's Choir (all ages). All are led by the Director of Music, Allen R. Wayte, who is an accomplished organist and choral director. Attention students and newcomers - new choristers are always welcome! Contact our Director of Music for further information or fill out the form here.

GROWING IN FAITH

Quality Christian Education is our goal!

With the leadership of a strong team of lay leaders, teachers and Director of C. E., John Gahan, we are able to offer Church School classes, youth groups, Bible Studies and other activities to help us grow in our faith.

SERVING LOCALLY AND GLOBALLY

Serving God through serving others!

Sponsoring refugees, supporting the St. Andrew's Supper for those on the street, partnering with the Ward 5 Community Centre to provide Christmas boxes, contributing to the Food Bank and raising money for worthwhile local projects are some of the activities of our congregation. We also work ecumenically with the South End Churches and denominationally with the Atlantic Baptist Fellowship, the Convention of Atlantic Baptist Churches, and Canadian Baptist Ministries.
