First Baptist Church Halifax
Where Faith Comes to Life!

July Services

We hope you will join us each Sunday in July at 10:30 a.m. as we gather to worship God in First Baptist Church. We have an excellent roster of preachers and soloists, and we will be offering a special program for children, K-6, each Sunday. Our Creche, or nursery facilities, will also be available.

Rev. Nelson Metcalfe is our Minister of Visitation and has had a distinguished career as a Baptist minister serving in such communities as Avonport-Lockhartville, NS, Saint John, NB and Bedford, NS, the latter for 17 years prior to "retirement." For the last three years he has been with us on a part time basis.

Lic. John Dalton is a Deacon of First Baptist Church, and since his retirement as a CBC producer John has been enroled as a Lay Pastor in Training. His desire is to serve God as a lay pastor and John already has an active role in the palliative care ministry at Halifax's Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

Rev. John Gahan came to First Baptist after many years as a Jesuit priest in the Roman Catholic Church. Here in Halifax he served as Chaplain at St. Mary's University for two years in the mid-90s, and later as Pastor of the Canadian Martyrs Parish. Most recently, John was Pastor of the St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Wolfville, N. S. from which he resigned in 2006. John became a member of First Baptist Church at Easter 2008 and, after serving us since November, 2007 as Interim Director of CE, has been appointed to a one year term as our Minister of Christian Education as of July 1, 2008.

First Baptist - Where Faith Comes to Life...

WORSHIPPING GOD

Weekly worship prepares us for daily service!

Worship in the Baptist tradition with an ecumenical flavour is the essence of our Sunday service at First Baptist Church Halifax. We feature a fine choir, biblically-based preaching, warm fellowship and meaningful liturgies tied to the Christian Year.

MAKING MUSIC TOGETHER

Choral and Organ Music have a long tradition at First Baptist.

Music is not only an integral part of worship, it is one of the creative languages of faith itself. We have four choirs. In addition to the Senior Choir (age 15+), there is a Junior Choir (age 7-14), PK Choir (age 2-6) and a Men's Choir (all ages). All are led by the Director of Music, Allen R. Wayte, who is an accomplished organist and choral director. Attention students and newcomers - new choristers are always welcome! Contact our Director of Music for further information or fill out the form here.

GROWING IN FAITH

Quality Christian Education is our goal!

With the leadership of a strong team of lay leaders, teachers and Minister of C. E., John Gahan, we are able to offer Church School classes, youth groups, Bible Studies and other activities to help us grow in our faith.

SERVING LOCALLY AND GLOBALLY

Serving God through serving others!

Sponsoring refugees, supporting the St. Andrew's Supper for those on the street, partnering with the Ward 5 Community Centre to provide Christmas boxes, contributing to the Food Bank and raising money for worthwhile local projects are some of the activities of our congregation. We also work ecumenically with the South End Churches and denominationally with the Atlantic Baptist Fellowship, the Convention of Atlantic Baptist Churches, and Canadian Baptist Ministries.
