First Baptist Church Halifax
Where Faith Comes to Life!

Director of Music

Lynette Wahlstrom joined our staff as Director of Music in July 2009. Lynette has led the FBC Senior Choir in major choral works by Dvorak, Brahms, Faure as well as anthems ranging from Rennaissance to modern choral literature. The Congregation at First Baptist commissioned an original composition by Halifax-born composer Cy Giacomin entitled "Ye Shall Live". This commissioned work was presented for the Church's 60th Anniversary service and also premiered in concert on April 10, 2010 with the Cello talents of Hilary Brown. Lynette also directs the Men's Choir "Men Without Jackets", the "Children's Choir" and will start an exciting new Choir this fall - the "Halifax Girls' Sacred Choir".

Ms. Wahlstrom's credentials include a Bachelor of Music from Brandon University, a Licentiate in Piano Performance from McGill University, a Master of Music in Piano Performance from the University of Montreal, as well as a Master of Music in Piano Accompaniment from McGill University. She previously has been the Music Director/Organist at Beaconsfield United Church, Westmount Park United Church and St. Clement's Anglican Church, Verdun. Lynette will continue as a member of Dalhousie University's Department of Music as Collaborative Pianist in addition to her duties here.

Our Music Vision

The vision for the music program at First Baptist Church Halifax is to explore the richness of choral music, involving people of all ages who love to sing. The choirs offer a direct and fulfilling worship experience, both in being part of an enthusiastic group and in congregational leadership. Our Choir ensembles are a place to learn and experience the power of music through interpretation, learning and community. Talk to our music director, Lynette Wahlstrom, or one of our choir members. We accept new members both in September and January seasons.
