In Memory of Helen Shirley Smith
First Baptist Church Halifax extends sincere sympathy to Kay Zinck and family in the loss of her mother, Helen Shirley Smith, of Truro, NS on January 26, 2012.
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Helen Smith announces that she passed away January 26, 2012 peacefully at the age of 86 with her four children by her bedside. Helen will be missed by her many friends and family members who were a great comfort to her during her brief illness. Helen was an amazing person with a strong sense of family which was passed on to all of her children. Helen spent her whole life in Truro and was active in the community with her curling club, bridge club, swimming group, hooking club and in the church (First Baptist). Helen and her family will be forever thankful to all those who provided her with transportation to her respective activities. She always has a smile and a meal (or cookies) for all who dropped by. A heartfelt thanks from the family to Dr. Harold Berghuis, Dr. Kris Srivatsa, the nursing staff and the entire stroke team on 4 East of the Colchester Regional Hospital for their compassion and extraordinary care. Helen is survived by her children, Suzanne (Bob) Thomas, Naples, Florida; Shari (Eric) Glinz, Bible Hill; Herb (Kathy) Smith, Fort McMurray, Alberta; Kay (Steve) Zinck, Halifax; brothers, Jack MacDonald, Truro; Logan MacDonald, Georgetown, Ontario; grandchildren, Tara, Justin, Andrew, Dawn, Gerald, Kristin, Darcy, Alex; great grandchildren, Laura and Elias. She was predeceased by her husband, Russel Smith, and brother, Milton MacDonald. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall-Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro where the family will receive friends from 6:30-7:30 pm Sunday, January 29, 2012 and from where a funeral service will be held 2 pm Monday, January 30, 2012, Reverend John Tonks officiating. Reception to follow and interment is to be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in memory of Helen to the First Baptist Church or the Arthritis Society of Nova Scotia. In Memory of Marion Scott

— Sackville, N.B. Marion passed away peacefully and went to be with her
Lord on Tuesday, January 24, 2012, while residing in the Drew Nursing
Home in Sackville, N.B. Born in Halifax on November 21, 1924, she was
the daughter of the late Muriel (MacLeod) and David Moulton. Marion was married in 1944 to Nicholas Vickruck of Thunder Bay, Ont., where they raised a family of five children. She was involved in 4-H,
Women’s Institute, Rural Learning Association and she hosted her own
television program on CKPR for nine years. Marion moved back to
Halifax in 1975, where she worked at Northwood Centre for 15 years
until her retirement. She was also the director of Lifeline Nova
Scotia. In 2007, Marion married Mel Scott and they enjoyed a year and a
half of happiness until his passing. For the past 17 months, she lived
in Sackville following a debilitating stroke. Marion was an avid
painter, was very proud of her Scottish heritage and she thoroughly
enjoyed nature and people. She was especially appreciative of the love
and care she received while residing in the Drew Nursing Home. Marion is
survived by her children, David (Eeva-Liisa) of Savona, B.C.; Nikki
(Frank) Schmitt of Sechelt, B.C.; Aydan (Patricia) of Edmonton, Alta.;
Ronald (Colleen) of White Rock, B.C. and Vernon (Sharon) of Sackville,
N.B.; brother, Vernon Moulton of Lower Sackville; nine grandchildren;
three great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins, as
well as three stepchildren and their families. She was predeceased by
her parents, Muriel and David Moulton; first husband, Nicholas
Vickruck and by her second husband, Mel Scott. Arrangements have been
entrusted to Campbell’s Funeral Home, 89 Bridge St., Sackville, N.B.
(506-364-8188). In keeping with Marion’s wishes, cremation has taken
place. Visitation will take place on Friday, January 27 in Middle
Sackville Baptist Church, 14 Church St., Sackville, N.B., from 2 p.m.
until the time of the memorial service at 3 p.m. with Rev. Jerry Horsman
officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Marion may be
made to Middle Sackville Baptist Church, Canadian Wildlife Federation or
to the charity of one’s choice.
