Community Outreach This Christmas

White Gift - This is the time of year when we plan our White gift Program which will take place on December 11th.  Here's a great way for you to get involved!  We are hoping to provide gifts for at least 80 people and donate a minimum of $1000.00 for Christmas dinners as well as support a few other worthy organizations this holiday season.  Volunteers are needed to:
    ∙    purchase and wrap gifts
∙    help pack the food boxes on December 16th from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM at the Ward 5 Neighbourhood Centre
∙    deliver the food boxes, as well as the gifts, to the recipients on December 17th at 9:00 AM
We're counting on your support to make our White Gift Program a success again this year - a wonderful way to bring Christmas to families in need! Contact Gwendolyn MacLean if you can help.

Brunswick Street Mission Breakfast Program - First Baptist Church will be preparing and serving breakfast for the Brunswick Street Mission on Saturday, December 31 at 5:30 AM.  Although a busy time of year for everyone, I'm hoping that we will have lots of volunteers sign up for this very rewarding outreach project.
Thank you to everyone who volunteered at the Brunswick Street Mission on Saturday, August 6, arriving at 5:30 AM to help prepare and serve breakfast, make sandwiches, and clean up afterwards.  Your generosity of spirit and hard work was greatly appreciated by the 71 people who came!

Remember Our Food Trunk - The third Sunday of each month has been designated as Food Bank Sunday, with donations going to local food banks such as Feed Nova Scotia, Ward 5 Food Bank, and the Parker Street Food and Furniture Bank to help feed those in need.  Donations can be dropped off at other times as well.

2011 Harvest Supper Pictures

On September 23rd the Community Outreach and Refugee Committees hosted the annual Harvest Supper and Silent Auction with over 120 in attendance. Proceeds were designated for the Parker Street Food and Furniture Bank and our refugee ministry. Warren Hoeg took pictures which can be seen below:

Thanks to Warren Hoeg, here are some pictures of the First Baptist Team serving breakfast at the Brunswick Street Mission on August 6, 2011:

Ark Supper - Recipe

First Baptist will provide the "Ark Supper" at St. Andrew's United Church on Sunday, October 2nd, 2011. Volunteers are needed to prepare and/or serve the meal to the many people from our city who depend upon this meal each week. You may want to prepare the recipe and freeze it ahead of time. Please see that it is delivered hot to St. Andrew's (corner of Robie and Coburg) by 4 p.m. The menu for this supper is the "Spaghetti Pie" and the recipe is available here (just scroll down the list of recipes).

Social Outreach

Our Community Outreach Committee is involved in several major projects - outreach to residents of north end Halifax in conjunction with Ward 5 Community Center, participation on a rotation basis with other churches in providing a hot meal for the homeless (St. Andrew's Supper and Brunswick Street Mission Breakfasts), and the annual White Gift Offering for Christmas boxes and gifts for the poor and disadvantaged. First Baptist Church also works through Feed Nova Scotia to help meet emergency food needs in the community. Gwendolyn MacLean is the Chair of our Community Outreach Committee.

Thanks to Doug Eisner we have these pictures of the good work of our volunteers at the Brunswick St. Mission during the month of May:
