Section 1: Admission
All
persons who profess faith in Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord, and who accept
the ideals of this church as expressed in the Church Covenant and the Core
Values, and are otherwise qualified for membership may be admitted on
recommendation of the Minister and the Board of Deacons. Candidates for
membership should participate in classes of instruction appropriate to their
situation. These classes will include Baptist principles and identity, and also
the ideals as expressed in the Church Covenant and the Core
Values.
Section 2: Qualifications for Membership
First Baptist
Church, Halifax, affirms the principle of regenerate church membership. Persons
who are qualified to be members of this church are:
(i) Believers who have
been baptized in this church by immersion, or, in exceptional circumstances by
some other form deemed acceptable by the Minister and the Board of Deacons, and
who have publicly professed their faith in Jesus Christ as Saviour and
Lord.
(ii) Believers who present letters of transfer from other Baptist
churches.
(iii) Believers who present letters of transfer, or other
satisfactory evidence of baptism and Christian experience, from another
Christian church.
