First Baptist Church Halifax
Where Faith Comes to Life!

First Baptist Worship Leaders

Rev John E. Boyd, Senior Minster of First Baptist Church Halifax, preaches on most Sundays during the year. His sermons are biblically based (Revised Common Lectionary) and show how the scriptures relate to life in the 21st Century.

I am convinced that the stories, poems, letters, historical reflections, etc. in the Bible have a vital message for all of us and are able to lighten our path, shape our character in Christlikeness, and draw us closer to God. - Rev. John E. Boyd

Mr. Allen R. Wayte is Director of Music for First Baptist. For each Sunday he chooses choral and instrumental music that will illuminate the theme and scriptures of the day.

Worship is "for the glory of God alone." God turns it around and graces us. Our non-virtuoso sounds have a place, but so does the careful practice of two or more. Choir and congregation do not compete; they complement one another. - Allen R. Wayte

WORSHIP SCHEDULE

Worship Services at First Baptist have a decidedly ecumenical flavour, drawing on the great liturgical traditions of Christianity. Music is led by a 30-voice Choir supported by a pipe organ, and most services have an unaccompanied Motet, an Anthem, and four hymns. First Baptist follows the Revised Common Lectionary and is known for strong preaching.

On the first Sunday each month we celebrate Holy Communion, which is open to all Christians who would ordinarily commune in their own church.
