First Baptist Church Halifax extends sincere sympathy to John Boyd and Anne Huestis and family in the death of their uncle, Donald Fillmore of Brooklyn, Hants Co., on 3 August 2009.
Fillmore, Donald Harvey - age 85, of Brooklyn, Hants County, passed away on Monday, August 3rd, 2009, in the V. G. Site, Q.E. II Halifax. Born on May 2nd, 1924, in Brooklyn, Hants County, Nova Scotia, he was the son of the late Josephine (nee: Harvey) Fillmore. Don was office manager of the Nova Scotia Department of Transportation, Windsor, for 16 years, retiring in 1987, and was formerly employed with the Hants Co-op Services for 15 years, in management and accounting. He graduated in 1942, from the Windsor Academy High School, and was part of the Windsor Academy Nova Scotia Champion Juvenile Hockey Team. He was a former member of the RCAF (1943-46). Don was a member and on the Board of Trustees of the Newport United Church, Brooklyn. He was past secretary and treasurer of the Brooklyn Volunteer Fire Department. He was also a member of Hants County Branch No.009, RCL, for over 30 years. Don loved woodworking and built cabinets, benches and gifts for family and friends. Don was a well-known and respected member of the community. Don is survived by his wife of 63 years, the former Violet Winnifred Smith; daughter, Beth (Doug) Allan, Dartmouth; granddaughter, Jennifer (Dave) Lloyd, Benllech, Angelsey, Wales; great grandson, Evan Lloyd; brother, Gerald; nephews, Brian and Glenn Fillmore. He was predeceased by his niece, Nancy Fillmore. Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation by request. Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, August 6th, 2009, in Lindsay's Windsor Funeral Home Chapel, 194 King Street, Windsor, with the Rev. Shelley Pick, Rev. John Boyd and Rev. Michael Boyd officiating. Interment will be held at a later date in Riverview Haven Cemetery, Union Corner. Family flowers only.
