First Baptist Church Halifax extends sincere sympathy to the family and friends of the late Ida Louise MacDonald.
MacDONALD, Ida Louise— Dartmouth, passed away peacefully August 30, 2009, in Dartmouth General Hospital after a very brave fight with cancer. Born in Sable River, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Louise MacDonald. She was employed with CNR in Toronto and on moving to Nova Scotia she enjoyed working at the National Film Board followed by Dalhousie University in the Law Department and later with DND at the Maritime Command Museum. Ida was an active member of First Baptist Church, Dartmouth and the Women's Mission Society; Eastern Star and Clan Donald. She had a caring way with people and her church involvement included outreach to South America. Ida had a passion for travel and reached many parts of most continents, several during a solo year-long trip around the world. She will be greatly missed by her brother, Murray (Audrey), Moncton and her sister, Dorothy (John) Horrocks, Ottawa. She was predeceased by brothers, Harry and Bill. She often hosted family gatherings and will be fondly remembered by her extended family, including many nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation in Atlantic Funeral Homes, 771 Main St., Dartmouth from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday, September 4. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, September 5, in First Baptist Church, 100 Ochterloney St., Dartmouth, with Rev. Dr. Peter Sherwood officiating. Interment will take place in Fairhaven Cemetery, Moncton, N.B. at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, September 6, Rev. Dr. David Watt officiating. Donations in memory may be made to First Baptist Church Bible Society, The Sharing Way (Canadian Baptist Ministries), Canadian National Institute for the Blind, or a charity of choice. The family wishes to thank the caregivers who attended her at home and in the hospital and the doctors and staff of Dartmouth General Hospital who gave such special care to Ida.
