First Baptist Church Halifax extends sincere sympathy to John Boyd and Anne Huestis and family in the loss of their uncle, Harland "Pop" Lockhart on July 28th.
LOCKHART, Harland Reid "Pop" —Brooklyn, Hants Co., passed away peacefully on July 28, 2009, at the age of 83 in Kelowna, B.C. The youngest of four children born to Ernest and Bessie Lockhart, Pop was predeceased by his parents, sister, Wilma, and brothers Lewis and Raymond. Pop will forever be remembered by his loving wife of 63 years, Amy (Boyd); son, Harley (Dale); daughter, Nancy (Gord), and grandchildren Maria, Matthew, Steven (Kayla) and Jake. Pop served his country in the reserve army as a teen, in the Royal Canadian Navy during the Second World War followed by a 25 year career in the Royal Canadian Air Force and Canadian Armed Forces. Always ready to help any friend or neighbor, he was an active member of the Kingston United Church, a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, and a life member of Lions Club Intl, Kingston Branch and for several years was chosen Lion of the Year. In 2008 Pop and Amy moved to Kelowna BC to be closer to family. Although he suffered loss of memory from vascular dementia during the last few years, he retained a cheerful outlook and his endearing sense of humour to the end. His passing will leave a hole in the lives of all who knew him. A memorial service is planned for Chatsworth Retirement Residence, 1831 Parkview Cr, Kelowna, B.C. at 2 p.m. August 11.
