Congregational Meeting

At a well attended luncheon and meeting on Sunday, October 4th, ably chaired by David Morse, the congregation received several updates from various Church leaders.

Scott Sterns spoke of the work of the Refugee Committee and the congregation shared his excitement that a family will be arriving from Iraq by the end of October. A fundraising supper in conjunction with the Community Outreach Committee is planned for October 16. You can read more here.

Deacon David Dexter described the current situation regarding Convention's incorporation plans and provided a written report on last August's Assembly, which is available here.

David Morse spoke of the work of the Nominating Committee, which will soon be approaching people to serve in the life of our Church. He urged people to respond positively when asked.

Clyde Evans, Treasurer, reported on the success of the financial restructuring voted on last June. Over the summer action was taken to ensure that all restricted funds were fully funded and that all future contributions for specific purposes would be segregated from the general operating account. He indicated that the Church was able to come through the summer period without having to borrow, but that cash flow would be tight during the fall. He estimated that the end-of-year excess of costs over contributions could be closer to $10,000, rather than the $30,000 budgeted last spring, largely due to savings on oil, salaries and moving expenses.

David Gibson, Chair of Finance, presented a process developed for arriving at the 2010 Budget in time for a meeting in January. You can read this document here. He also presented recommendations regarding an extraordinary gift of $300,000 received by the Church last spring. The recommendations had been prepared by a financial working group established by the Board of Management, and revised by the Board in September. After discussion and clarification they were adopted unanimously. Use of the gift will be reviewed annually. You can read the complete presentation here.
