First Baptist Church Halifax extends sincere sympathy to the family and friends of the late John Elliott of Carleton Corner, Annapolis County, N. S., whose Memorial Service was held in Bridgetown Baptist Church on May 5 at 11 a.m. Mr. Elliott and his late wife, Betty, and family were active members of our congregation some years ago.
ELLIOTT, John Willoughby - 90, Carleton Corner, Annapolis Co., formerly
of Halifax, passed into the arms of his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ
on May 1, 2007, in Valley Regional Hospital. Born in Paradise,
Annapolis Co., he was a son of the late Murray and Ethel Victoria
Elliott. He will be sadly missed by son, John Kimberley (Sharon), Red
Deer, Alta.; daughter, Tanya Victoria (Doug), Dartmouth;
granddaughters, Lesley and Ainsley; Charlie the cat; many nieces and
nephews. He was predeceased by his wonderful wife of 63 years, Betty
(Ritchie); brothers, Murray (Mack), Rufus, Sinclair, and Mathew. John
was an active member of Bridgetown Baptist Church. At the time of his
retirement he held the position of Payroll Auditor with Revenue Canada.
After retirement John took on the position of fundraising for Acadia
Divinity College for the Annapolis Valley area for several years. Since
losing Betty in 2005 John had become known as the Marmalade King of
Carleton Corner, making orange marmalade from scratch and sharing it
with his church family and his neighbours on a regular basis. He loved
to do woodworking, making coffee tables and other pieces of furniture
for family members and friends. He also took great pride in his
property and actively took care of it up until the time of his death.
The highlight of his day was to jump in his car and go on drives along
country roads up and down the Annapolis Valley. At the end of this his
final journey may he hear, "Well done thou good and faithful servant".
Cremation has taken place and a celebration of John's life will be held
in Bridgetown Baptist Church on Saturday, May 5, at 11 a.m., Rev George
Neily officiating. Internment will take place in Pine Grove Cemetery,
Middleton. Donations in memory may be made to Bridgetown Baptist Church
or Acadia Divinity College. Online condolences may be made through:
