In Memory of Rev. J. Melville Scott

First Baptist Church Halifax extends sincere sympathy to the family and friends of the late Rev. James Melville Scott whose death occured on Sunday, Februrary 15. A Memorial Service was held on Wednesday, February 18 at 2 p.m. in First Baptist Church.

Scott, James Melville (Mel) died February 15 at home. Born in Sydney Mines, N. S., he was the son of the late Adam and Margaret (Glen) Scott. During World War II he served as a navigator with the RCAF and was a member of Vimy Branch, Royal Canadian Legion. He was a graduate of Acadia University (BA & MDiv) and was ordained to the Baptist ministry in 1958. He served churches in Canning-Pereaux-Blomidon, N. S., Cornerbrook, Nfld., Ottawa, Ont., Bridgewater, N. S., and Sackville, N. S. From 1959-63, he was Field Representative of Acadia University and from 1979-92 was Director of Pastoral Care at Northwood Incorporated, Halifax. He was noted for his musical talent and sang with numerous choirs and toured extensively during college days with the Acadia University Male Quartet. For eight years he was featured as a soloist on "Worship in Song" produced at Radio CKEN, Kentville, N.S. and circulated on radio stations throughout the Atlantic Provinces. He was active in senior citizens’ organizations and served for nine years with a provincial government advisory group, The Nova Scotia Senior Citizens’ Commission. In 2003 he was awarded the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal. Surviving are wife Marion Sarah (Moulton) Scott, daughters Catherine Lynn Scott, Alberta, Lori Anne Scott (Paul Green), Stillwater Lake, N. S., son James Melville Scott (Barbara Lynn Chandler), Wolfville, and granddaughters Emily Lynn Scott, Victoria, B. C. and Tiffany Rose Scott, Halifax. He was predeceased by his first wife Eva Mae (Critchley) Scott. Funeral arrangements with Snow’s Funeral Home, Windsor St., Halifax. No visitation. There will be a memorial service at First Baptist Church, 1300 Oxford St., Halifax, Wednesday, February 18 at 2:00 p.m. led by Rev. John Boyd with reception to follow. Interment will be at a later date. No flowers by request. Thanks to LifeCare Respiratory Services Ltd.
