WHITNEY, Jean Frances - Halifax. It is with great sadness that Jean, Mom, Nanna, a woman of abundant love, compassion, kindness and generosity has passed away on Friday, June 27, 2008, in the Halifax Infirmary QEII. Born in Witkowice, Poland, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Victoria (Tys) Rybak. In her earlier years, she was an active member of First Baptist Church Halifax, and a volunteer in many community organizations, including the I.O.D.E. and Camphill Hospital. Her greatest joy in life was her family for which she had unending love, pride and adoration. She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Theodore; her only son, Dahrl and his wife, Joan, and precious grandchildren, Meredith and Stewart. Jean is also survived by sister-in-law, Dorothy (C.K.-Buck) Jones, and brother-in-law, Lloyd Whitney (late Airel Whitney); nephew, Leslie Thompson; niece, Brenda Deseaux. Jean was predeceased by her sister, Oba Thompson (Kelowna B.C.). A special thank you to Dr. G. Gubitz and the nursing team of the QEII 8.1 in making the last days of Jean's life warm and comfortable. A celebration of Jean's life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 4 in First Baptist Church (1300 Oxford St.) Halifax. Interment in Fairview Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia, IWK Health Centre Foundation, First Baptist Church Halifax and Sacred Heart School, Halifax.
