In Memory of Marjorie Evans

First Baptist Church Halifax extends sincere sympathy to the family and friends of the late Marjorie Evans whose death occurred on December 31st. A Funeral Service took place on Tuesday, January 6, at 11 a.m. at the Church.

EVANS, Marjorie Beatrice - 87, Halifax, passed away peacefully on December 31, 2008. Born in Moncton, N.B., Marjorie was a daughter of the late Harold P. Parkes and H. Beatrice (Spicer) Parkes and was a resident of Halifax since 1935. She attended Halifax Ladies College and Dalhousie University where she received a B.A. in English and Languages in 1942. Marjorie was an active member of Alpha Gamma Delta, Women of Rotary, Halifax Ladies Curling Club, Ashburn Golf Club, Oakfield Golf Club, Saraguay Club and many different bowling and bridge clubs. She was a long-time member of St. Andrews Church, and then a 50 year member of First Baptist Church, where she was especially active in the Ladies Auxiliary, serving as President and Treasurer. For the past 65 years, Marjorie was the devoted spouse of Reginald D. Evans, who considered meeting Marjorie an incredible stroke of good luck, and who only recently predeceased her. Together with Reg, Marjorie had travelled the world extensively and had avidly enjoyed entertaining a great many friends and family both at home and at the family cottage at Grand Lake. She is survived by her sister, Dorothy E. Parkes. Marjorie was a loving mother to her children, Ellen Pilon (Paul); son, Owen (Betty); son, Clyde (Lynne), and adored grandmother to eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She will be lovingly remembered for her generosity of spirit, elegance, dignity and deep commitment to her family. Donations in memory may be made to a charity of one's choice. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, January 5, in J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor St., Halifax. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 6, in First Baptist Church, 1300 Oxford St., Halifax, Rev. John Boyd officiating. Interment will take place in Fairview Lawn Cemetery, Halifax.
