First Baptist Church Halifax extends sincere sympathy to the family and friends of the late Raymond Ferguson whose death occurred on June 10. The funeral took place on Monday, June 18 at 10:00 a.m. in First Baptist Church.
FERGUSON, Raymond W. LLD. 84, of Halifax, passed away Sunday, June 10. Born in 1922 in Dartmouth he was the son of the late William and Agnes Ferguson. He attended Acadia University graduating in 1946 with a BA (Economics). After graduation he worked with his father, a contractor, until 1951. At that time he started his own contracting and development business under the name Eastern Builders Supplies Ltd, later the name was changed to RW Ferguson Investments Ltd. He was an Alderman for the City of Halifax from 1955 until 1961. He volunteered for and supported many business and charitable organizations including the Halifax/Dartmouth Real Estate Board and the Canadian Association of Real Estate Boards, the Appraisal Institute of Canada, the Better Business Bureau, Investment Property Owners Association of Nova Scotia, Chair of the Halifax/Dartmouth Port Commission, and Chair of the Halifax Port Corporation. He was active in the Liberal Party. He served on the Halifax Branch of the Canadian Council of Christians and Jews, the Advisory Board of the CNIB and on the Board of Governors of Saint Mary’s University from 1971-1982. He received an Honorary Doctor of Laws Degree from Saint Mary’s in 1984. He was at one time an Honorary Consul for Brazil in Nova Scotia. He traveled extensively with his wife Alex in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. He is survived by his sons Brian, Bill, Bob (Libby) and Bruce (Barb) grandchildren; Meghan, Kate, Jennifer, Jean, Sarah, Stuart, Amy, Jessica, Carly and Brad. He was predeceased by his much loved wife Alexandra (MacDonald). Internment in Fairview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Canadian National Institute for the Blind.
