He went on to form his own company Marine and General Agencies Ltd. and to purchase MacLaren Hope, later to be renamed MacLaren Hebb Insurance. His love of the business, together with devoted staff and brokers, helped him to create a successful group of companies which he enjoyed being a part of everyday until his retirement in 2001. He was particularly proud when his children, David and Cyndy joined him in the early 80s becoming the fourth generation of Hebb's to enter the Insurance industry. Tom loved his work and was very involved, acting as the President of the Independent Insurance Broker's Association of Nova Scotia and as a member of the International Order of the Blue Goose. He travelled and attended many industry conventions making lifelong friends along the way. He was a member of the Halifax Curling Club, the RNSYS, and the Petpeswick Yacht Club. He loved being on the water, and owned several power boats as well as a 32 foot wooden sloop, which he eventually traded them all, to purchase "the cottage" where he would spend his later years gardening, doing carpentry, enjoying the outdoors and smoking his pipe. Tom is survived by his wife of 54 years, Florene whom he met and fell in love with at a Jubilee Boat Club dance, and married in 1955.
