First Baptist Church Halifax extends sincere sympathy to daughter, Heather, and the family and friends of the late Jean C. McDonald who died on Monday, February 23rd. A Memorial Service was held in First Baptist Church Halifax on Friday, February 27th at 2:00 p.m. with a reception to follow.
McDONALD (Nickerson), Jean C. - 93, Halifax, died at home Monday, February 23, 2009. Jean was born in Halifax, the daughter of the late Eugene and Laura (MacLean) Nickerson. Jean had many gifts which she used wisely focusing on family, friends and community. Wherever a helping hand was needed, a kind and compassionate word, or a sweet and loving gesture, Jean was there. Jean's long life was lived to the fullest during interesting times. She is survived by her daughter, Heather Harris; brother, Bruce and sister-in-law, Fern Nickerson, Jeddore; special niece, Marsha Nickerson and her family, Ami, Merav (Ryan), Dina (Mike) Jacobson, and great-niece Hannah, all of Toronto, and was favourite "Aunt Jean" to nephews, Colin (Mara), Toronto, and Paul Nickerson, Halifax. Jean was predeceased by her older brother, Alex Nickerson and her beloved nephew, Bruce Nickerson, Jr.; his wife, Dina (Temple) and their children, Bruce and Denise. Jean was diagnosed with late stage Alzheimer's in 2003. She inspired a successful treatment with the goals of care, comfort, serenity and security. Those goals were anchored in customized care plans developed with Northwood Homecare. Thanks to Dr. Janet Gordon and Dr. Kata Koller, Memory Clinic, Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia, Dr. Frank Doane, VON, Red Cross and the Palliative Care Team. A service celebrating Jean's life will be held in First Baptist Church, 1300 Oxford St., Halifax, Friday, February 27, 2 p.m. with Rev. John Boyd officiating. Reception to follow. Donations in Jean's memory would be welcomed for the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia, Bide Awhile Animal Shelter or a charity of choice.
