First Baptist Church Halifax extends sincere sympathy to the family and friends of the late Olga Allwood. A Memorial Service will be held at the Church on Wednesday, September 6 at 2 p.m.

ALLWOOD (Bishop), Olga Ruth
- 83, Halifax, passed away Saturday, September 2, 2006, in Glades Lodge, Halifax. Born in Western Bay, N.L., she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Martha (Tucker) Bishop (Conception Bay, N.L.). She was educated in the Protestant school system in Newfoundland. Prior to her marriage, she worked as a telegraph operator for the Pepperell Military Base in St. John's, N.L., and for the Chester Dawe Construction Company. In Halifax she worked as the bookkeeper for the Arcade Ladies Shop and the Barrington Street Shopper's Drug Mart. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Halifax, and was active in Christian Education and the Afternoon Auxiliary, which she served as president. She was supportive of her children's endeavours, acting as Primary Sunday School Superintendent at First Baptist Halifax. Previously, she was also Sunday School Superintendent at Gower Street United Church in St. John's and president of the local Red Cross Society in Belleoram, N.L. She is survived by her son, Rev. Dr. Philip Griffin-Allwood and wife Linda and grandsons James and Matthew Griffin-Allwood, Moncton; daughter, Joan Holland and grandson Christopher, Guelph, Ont.; sister, Joyce Bishop, and sister-in-law, Sadie (Mrs. Walter) Bishop, Toronto; cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, George; brother, Walter Bishop; sister, Verna Taylor, and son-in-law, John Holland. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 6, in First Baptist Church, Halifax, Rev. John Boyd and Rev. Nelson Metcalfe officiating. A time of fellowship and refreshments will follow. Burial will take place at a later date in Newfoundland. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or Canadian Cancer Society. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to White Family Funeral Home, Kentville.
