First Baptist Church Halifax extends sincere symapthy to the family and friends of the late Vema Shirley Sheppard of Dutch Settlement whose funeral service was held there in St. George's Anglican Church on Wednesday, March 25th.
SHEPPARD, Velma Shirley - Dutch Settlement, passed away March 22, 2009, in the VG Site, QEII, Halifax, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Halifax, she was a daughter of the late Hugh and Mabel (Corkum) Mitchell. For many years, she had been employed with the Halifax Regional Water Commission, retiring due to ill health. Earlier this month she reached the milestone of her 80th birthday. Surviving are her husband, George; sons, Jack, Halifax; Bill (Nancy); granddaughters, Tiffany and Kimberly, all of Lakeview; sister, June Mont, Vancouver, B.C. She was predeceased by son, Bobby; sisters, Lois and Virginia. Cremation has taken place. Funeral service will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. in St. George's Anglican Church, Dutch Settlement, Canon David Fletcher and Rev. Patty McKenna officiating. Memorial donations may be made to Kidney Foundation of Canada, Nova Scotia Branch or a charity of choice. The family wish to express their appreciation to the doctors, nurses and staff of the Dialysis Unit in the VG Site, QEII, and the nurses on 6B for their care and compassion. Arrangements are under the direction of Arimathea Funeral Cooperative, Upper Musquodoboit.
