A Funeral Service for the late Lois Duffy was held at First Baptist Church Halifax on Thursday, September 28th at 2 p.m. We offer our sincere sympathy to Lois' family and friends.

DUFFY, Lois G. - 79, Halifax, passed away September 22, 2006, at the VG Site, QEII, Halifax. Born in Dorchester, N.B., Lois was a daughter of the late Reverend Leon and Gertrude (McLaughlin) Duffy. She was predeceased by her brother, Warren, and her cousins, Miriam Duffy and Winnifred Briggs. Lois was a dedicated daughter, supporting her mother through a lengthy illness. Lois graduated from Acadia University in 1948 with a B.A. and a Diploma in Secretarial Science. Upon graduation, she traveled to Montreal to work with Sunlife Insurance, followed by four years with a Fredericton, N.B., law firm. Lois enjoyed a 37 year career with the Atlantic Provinces Economic Council (APEC) in Halifax. At her retirement dinner a music scholarship was established in her name at Acadia University. Lois effectively supported her profession as one of the first four individuals east of Montreal to attain her designation as a Certified Professional Secretary (CPS) as well as serving as a Charter Member of the Halifax Chapter of the National Secretaries Association (International). Lois was remembered for being capable, competent and very organized. Lois generously supported her community as treasurer with the United Baptist Women's Missionary Union (UBWMU), member of council with the Convention of Atlantic Baptist Churches and Canadian Baptist Ministries, treasurer and clerk with the Halifax Region United Baptist Association, and secretary-treasurer with the Halifax Association Women's Missionary Society (WMS). In addition, Lois dedicated herself to the First Baptist Church, Halifax, as a past chair of the Diaconate, church clerk, and as a member of the Board of Trustees and other committees of the church. Lois will be remembered for her contributions to music as a member of the Atlantic Symphony Choir and with the Senior Choir at First Baptist Church, Halifax. Lois was a committed volunteer with with Heart and Stroke Foundation and was a selfless contributor to charity on local, national and international levels. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Rd., Halifax. Funeral service will take place 2 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church, Halifax, Reverend John Boyd will be officiating. An interment service will be held at a later date at Oakridge Memory Gardens, Lower Sackville. "Blessed are those who die in the Lord for their deeds follow them."
