In Memory of Rev. John W. Porter

First Baptist Church Halifax extends sincere sympathy to the family and friends of the late Rev. John W. Porter whose funeral was held at Faith United Baptist Church, Stokil Drive, Lower Sackville on Monday, May 7 at 2 p.m.

PORTER, Rev. John William, B.A., B.Ed., M.Div. - 79, Lower Sackville, passed away on May 2, 2007, in the VG Site, QEII, after a short but courageous battle with cancer. Born in Blomidon, he was a son of the late Wallace H. and Laura D. (Hatchard) Porter. He served in five pastorates during his 40 years in the ministry and in 10 churches as Interm Pastor during his 15 years of retirement. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Phyllis (O'Connell); daughter, Shelagh (Mark) Radcliffe, Dartmouth; son, Keith, Lower Sackville; close friend of the family, Peter Whynot and his son Blake; grandchildren, Dawn and Christopher Radcliffe; sister, Hilda Hazel, Habitant; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters, Vivian Burns and Lillian Dewolfe; brothers, Gordon, Lawrence, Clyde, Morris, Saxby, Garnet, and Blake. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Atlantic Funeral Home, 125 Sackville Dr., Lower Sackville, where visitation will be held on Sunday, May 6, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A memorial service will be held on Monday, May 7, at 2 p.m. in Faith United Baptist Church, Stokil Drive, Lower Sackville, with Rev. Wade Harvey officiating. Donations in memory may be made to Sackville United Baptist Church, 1240 Old Sackville Rd., Middle Sackville, NS B4E 3A6, Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
