In Memory of Gladys V. MacFarlane

First Baptist Church Halifax extends sincere sympathy to the family and friends of the late Gladys V. MacFarlane whose death occurred on Monday, July 20th, 2009.

MacFARLANE, Gladys V. — We regret to announce the passing on July 20, 2009, of Mom, Nan and Glady, our dear mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to many. It could truly be said that her life was fully lived; she turned 88 on July 15. Glady is survived by her son, Barrie; her daughter-in-law, Karen; her grandchildren, Jennifer, Christopher, Andrew (Leigh-Ann) and Lauren; siste,r Donna; several nieces and a nephew. She was predeceased by her parents, Lorin and Eva Goodwin; brother, Ken; sisters, Eileen Taylor and Connie Fisher; as well as several nephews and brothers-in-law. Glady's life touched many through her dedication to the ideal of loving service, a dedication she fulfilled in her family, her work as an executive secretary and as a church and community worker. Over the years, she fulfilled various leadership responsibilities at First Baptist Church, Amherst, as well as IODE, where she convened a successful fashion show for a number of years to support IODE scholarship work. She had a particular passion for youth and encouraged their belief in God through study, theatre, and social activities. Her faith remained strong in times of trouble and she was an encouragement and a support to others, especially her family. Her son Barrie, his wife Karen and her four grandchildren gave her life special meaning. She adored her grandchildren and followed their formative years and adult achievements with unwavering interest. Even as her health failed she kept her outgoing personality and remained grateful for the blessings in her life. We admired her courage and determination in the face of adversity as well as her faith in God. A service of celebration will be held Saturday, July 25, at 2 p.m. in First Baptist Church, Amherst, Rev. Don Miller officiating with Rev. David Watt assisting. Arrangements are entrusted to Dartmouth Funeral Home. Family flowers only. Donations may be made in Glady's memory to First Baptist Church Amherst for Bayside Youth Camp or Camp Pagweak. She lives in our hearts always.
