In Memory of Allen R. Wayte

First Baptist Church Halifax extends sincere sympathy to the friends and loved ones of the late Allen Roy Wayte whose Memorial Service took place at the Church on Tuesday, December 9 at 11 a.m.

WAYTE, Allen, 56, passed away peacefully at his home in Dartmouth on Wednesday, December 3, 2008. Born in Northern Ontario, Allen began his church music career as a choirboy at Grace Cathedral in San Francisco. Further musical studies brought him back to Canada, and later England, including the study of improvisation and church music at The Royal School of Church Music. He held performance degrees in organ and harpsichord. After holding posts in Brockville, Ont., Allen began his duties at First Baptist Church, Halifax, in 1997. As Director of Music he administered an active music program including the direction of three choirs. Allen was an active recitalist and accompanist. He maintained a studio of organ, piano and voice students and was an active member of the Royal Canadian College of Organists, the Nova Scotia Choral Federation and the Association of Canadian Choral Conductors. During his time in Halifax, Allen served as interim University Musician at the Atlantic School of Theology, Halifax, and conducted a number of community-based choirs including the Chebucto Singers, the Seton Cantata Choir and the South Shore Chorale. As a director of the Elastic Millenium Choir he recorded 2 CDs. He also recorded for Vision and CBC television networks. Allen will be greatly missed by everyone whose life he touched. A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church, Halifax, 1300 Oxford St., at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, December 9. Visitation will be on Monday, December 8, from 7-9 p.m. in J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor St., Halifax. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Allen Wayte Music Scholarship Fund, being held in trust by First Baptist Church, Halifax.
