In Memory of Frances Fraser

First Baptist Church Halifax extends sincere sympathy to the family and friends of the late Frances Fraser whose death occured on June 11. A Memorial Service will be held in Cruikshank's Halifax Funeral Home on Robie Street on Saturday, June 16 at 12 noon. Visitation will take place the same day from 11 a.m. until noon.

Fraser, Frances Winnifred – 92, Halifax, died peacefully at Melville Lodge on June 11, 2007, after a lengthy illness. Born in Wolfville, Nova Scotia, on April 15th, 1915, Frances was the only daughter of Dr John and Alice Roach. Her beloved husband Donald Sulis predeceased her in 1967.She was also predeceased by her brothers Douglas, John and Stuart. Frances is survived by her sons Fred (Kate) of Hamilton, Ontario and Jim (Janice) of Banff, Alberta, as well as her grandson Alexander, residing in Whistler, British Columbia. Nephew John Roach of Vancouver, B.C. and niece Judy Kelly of London, Ontario, also survive her. She was a graduate of Acadia University in Wolfville, Nova Scotia. Here began a life involved with sports, where she competed on the woman’s basketball team, winning the Maritime Intercollegiate title in 1937. For this achievement , Frances was inducted into Acadia’s Sports Hall of Fame in 1988. After marrying Donald and moving to Halifax, Frances continued her competitive sports endeavors in the field of curling. She served several years as President of the ladies club at the Mayflower Curling Club. Frances devoted much of her early years raising her family before joining Dalhousie University in the registrar’s office. She retired from Dalhousie in 1981 having achieved the position of Assistant to the Registrar. The Frasers were members of First Baptist Church on Oxford Street where Frances continued to worship until later in life. The family is pleased to have Reverend John Boyd from First Baptist Church lead a service at Cruikshanks Funeral Home, 2030 Robie Street, Halifax on June 16th, 2007. Visitation will occur at 11.00 am with a service to follow at 12.00 pm. A brief reception at the funeral home will follow for family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate a donation to a local Alzheimer’s Society or First Baptist Church Halifax.
