First Baptist Church Halifax extends sincere sympathy to the family and friends of the late Charlotte Smith. A Funeral Service was held on Wednesday, June 11 at 11 a.m. from Snow's Funeral Home.
SMITH, Charlotte Tremaine Lyall - 93, Halifax, died at her home on June 5, 2008. She was born in Halifax, a daughter of the late Jennie (Hunter) and Garthland Lyall. She was educated in Halifax, graduating from Dalhousie University in 1935. She served the community for many years through both the Red Cross and the Junior League. In later years, she was an interested member of the Antiquarian Society. Her true passion was for traveling, having visited close to 80 countries. She is survived by her son, Doug and daughter-in-law Joan, Ottawa, Ont.; daughters, Diane, Toronto, Ont., and Marta, Mississauga, Ont. She adored and was adored by her grandchildren, Peter, Warsaw, Poland; Duncan, Mississauga, Ont.; Sara, Oakville, Ont., and Susan, Ian, and Fiona, Ottawa, Ont. She was very proud of her six great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her brother, Bob (Doris), Toronto, Ont., and sister, Janet, Vancouver, B.C. She was predeceased by her daughter, Sara, in 1969; her husband, Fletcher, in 1987; her great-granddaughter, Olivia, in 2004; sister, Marcia, in 1996, and brother, Doug, in 2008. Special thanks to the staff of RJF Healthcare for their care and consideration, often beyond the call of duty, and to Carol Scott who gave the warmest meaning to the word friend. Visitation 6-8 p.m. Tuesday in J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor St., Halifax. Funeral 11 a.m. Wednesday in Snow's Chapel.
