Founded circa 1832 and incorporated as an Anglican Cemetery in 1853, St. Anne’s Cemetery has a long history of serving the Byron community.
About Us:
St. Anne’s Anglican Cemetery is an active cemetery registered with the Cemeteries Branch of the Department of Business and Consumer Affairs, Toronto.
Sales of full size and cremation only graves are limited to the active members of St. Anne’s Vestry or, on approval, their immediate family. There are 700 graves in total in the cemetery with approximately 70 available sites left.
Each year the cemetery board and the church hold a Cemetery Memorial Service on the first Sunday in May. At this service family, friends and parishioners have the opportunity to remember the members of St. Anne’s and the community who have been interred at St. Anne’s Cemetery over the past year, and also to remember other family members or friends who have passed.
St. Anne’s Cemetery Board Update:
On November 24th Ivar A. and Peter H. attended a day long seminar in Niagara on the Lake. This was hosted by the Association of Cemeteries and Funeral Home Professionals and was very informative. There are a number of changes being implemented in 2012 with regard to cemeteries that could affect current and future interment rights holders. This will result in new By-laws being written and submitted to the Cemetery Registrar for approval. Once the new by-laws have been approved all parishioners who have an interest in St. Anne's Cemetery will be able to pick up a copy of the new by-laws in the church office.
As we approach Vestry 2012, the cemetery board would like each parishioner to be aware that we are looking at proposals for installation of the first phase of our planned Columbarium Cremation Niches. The cemetery board may be making a motion at vestry to proceed with this first phase and if so a preliminary presentation will be made at vestry and approval sought to proceed with quotes and design ideas. This Columbarium project would represent the beginning of the final phase of the Beautification Project which was started nearly 10 years ago and is something that may take one or two years to bring to fruition. As always, the cemetery board thanks all parishioners for their continued support and encouragement.
Peter Hawkins, Cemetery Chair.
Our commitment:
It is the purpose and goal of the cemetery board and the church to provide a reverent, peaceful and relaxing environment for parishioners and visitors to enjoy.
