St. Anne's Anglican Church (Byron)
A friendly community church

Music Director – Scott Tucker, B. Mus., M. Mus.
Scott was born and received his early musical training in Newfoundland. Before moving to London, Scott was a multi-time finalist in the National Music Festival as a trumpet player, and a finalist in the Yamaha International Brass Ensemble competition with his brass quintet. In 1991 he began studies at Western for a Master of Music degree, completing it in 1993. His piano studies started in 1978, and he began directing church choirs in 1982 after starting organ lessons in St. John's. A lifelong Anglican, Scott's musical interests vary from ancient four-part chants to modern anthems and hymns, and he has played guitar, bass, keyboards and supplied lead vocals for several Christian and secular rock bands. He has led the Diocese of Huron’s 53rd Musicians, and continues to play guitar at Huron Church Camp.

Adult Choir
St. Anne's is blessed with a wonderful SA(T)B Senior Choir, composed of dedicated folks who not only sing, but also have many chances throughout the year to socialize at special activities. New members are always welcome, and no formal musical training is required - just a love of music & singing. In 2009, the St. Anne’s choir has been asked to lead the Evensong service for the Seventh Service of the Bishop’s Awards for Excellence in Ministry, on November 1st at 5 pm.  A chance to sing a beautiful service in a beautiful acoustic is very exciting for our members.  Choir practice resumes September 17, 2009 at 7:30 in the West Wing (enter through the office doors and follow the signs).  Please call the Church Office for more details, and Scott will be happy to talk to prospective new members.

GraceNotes
St. Anne's is blessed with a number of parishioners who play musical instruments. Several times each year, our GraceNotes band accompanies our music director in contemporary praise songs and hymns. For the 2009/2010 season, GraceNotes is looking for guitarists, percussionists, and singers to join our ensemble – details of rehearsal and service times can be found by calling the church office or speaking with Scott directly.

Cherub Choir and Youth Singers
The Cherub Choir, for children aged 3 to 8 provides wonderful musical moments at different church services.  They get together after the 10:00 am Sunday service to practice, under the direction of Michele.

The Young Singers, made up of young people between the ages of 8 and 16, also practices on selected Sunday mornings after the 10:00 service.  All rehearsal and service times are pre-determined for the year, and can be found by speaking with Scott directly.
We encourage all of our young people to raise their voices with the appropriate group!

Remember: All God’s critters got a place in the choir!

Music Prayers
From Canon Janet: I came across a lovely little book simply entitled The Prayer Tree by Leunig and found two delightful reflections about music and thought they would be a lovely tribute of thanks for all our wonderful St. Anne’s musicians, choirs, and guests who bless us all year with their ministry of music.

Let us celebrate and praise all those musicians and composers, who give their hands and hearts and voices to the expression of life’s mystery and joy.
Who nourish our heart in its yearning
Who dignify our soul in its struggling
who harmonize our grief and gladness
Who make melody from the fragments of chaos
Who align our spirit with creation
Who reveal to us the grace of God
Who calm us and delight us and set us free to love and forgive
Let us give thanks and rejoice.

Amen.

We give thanks for singers
All types of singers
Popular, concert singers and tuneless singers in the bath.
Whistlers, hummers and those who sing while they work.
Singers of lullabies, singers of nonsense and small scraps of melody.
Singers on branches and rooftops.
Morning yodelers and evening warblers
Singers in seedy nightclubs, singers in the street’
Singers in cathedrals, school halls,
grandstands, back yards, paddocks
Bedrooms. corridors, stairwells and places of echo and resonnance.
We give praise to all those who give some small voice
To the everyday joy of the soul.

Amen.
