St. Anne’s Sponsored Child thru Christian Children’s Fund of Canada

Since 1996, a group of 13 ACW women has sponsored a child thru the above organization.  Since 2009, we now sponsor a boy in Nicaragua:  Darwin Francisco Lopez Leyton who loves with his family in Lomas De Guadalupe – a suburb of Managua, the capital of Nicaragua.  He comes from a Christian family that speaks Spanish.  The child’s father is the family caregiver and his income is very low to afford all of the home expenses.  Their house’s roof, walls and floor are in bad condition.  They do not have a sewage system and have to use an unhealthy latrine.  However, the child and his siblings attend school, birthday parties and religious activities.  He is at present in Grade 2 and his learning performance is good.  He attends tutoring classes in the afternoon.  Hi is happy and likes to play with his friends.  His favourite subject is math and his dream is to be an engineer.

12 women donate the monthly fee which has now risen in 2011 to $38 each.  Judith covers Christmas and birthday gifts.  This group now needs new members and if you are interested in joining, please call Judith B.  Also, Judith would very much like to write to Darwin in Spanish to welcome him to St. Anne’s Church.  If you have any knowledge of the language and could help, it would be greatly appreciated.  The Christmas card received from Darwin (and his sister?) is posted on the Parish hall bulletin board.
