Outreach opportunities for Vision Peoples in Mission (VPM)
St. Anne's generous supports of the VPM in the Korogocho slums of Nairobi will be sending donations in mid-December. Our main focus is to assist the Haven Primary School's lunch feeding program, the VPM medical clinic and their orphanage. If desired, donations to the Rev. Franklyn and Violet Otwoma family for their personal use can be indicated on the African gold VPM envelopes or on the cheque made payable to St. Anne's Church. Your donation can be placed on the collection plate or given in at the office. "You will put a big smile on everybody's face and heart for a true Christmas". Asante Sana Sana from The Friends of Nairobi

Bethany's Dream Fund:
Thanks to everyone who supported the coffee house and silent auction on May 14th. It was a tremendous success with approx $3000.00 raised and the entertainment was truly amazing! I am SO happy to tell you all that after 4 years I have now reached my goal of raising over $9000.00 to buy the land for Vision People's Mission orphanage. As an update, VPM is now looking for a more suitable piece of land to build the new orphanage than the one they were originally interested in. I will keep you up to date as the land search continues. I am also very pleased to tell you that Epsom Baptist church in the UK is also assisting with the funding to build the new orphanage.  Bethany

Excerpts from the Vision Peoples In Mission (VPM) Newsletter

“It is with a lot of gratitude and thanks to God’s family of St. Anne’s for the huge amounts of grace that God has bestowed on you to do good works. The mercies that outflow from your hearts will only be rewarded by God’s mercies upon you.”                                                                       Rev. Franklyn Otwoma (email Dec. 14 2010)

The Vision Peoples in Mission (VPM)   with its staff of 24 and 7 board committee members continues its work among the most poor and disadvantaged in the slums of Korogocho.  The clinic, school, women’s dressmaking classes, orphanage and children in foster care are all vital aspects of this Christian Mission which serves everyone regardless of ethnic or religious backgrounds.  Members of St. Anne’s donations are sent twice a year in June and December.

The Haven Primary School (elementary) provides an education for 401 students from early years to class (grade) seven.  This school has nine teachers and five support staff.  Each student is given a hot meal at lunch time and for the majority this will be their only meal of the day.  Rice and corn meal are staples with the black beans providing protein.  If you feed the children the families will send them to school. The longer their children are in school the incidence of becoming involved in drugs, alcohol and prostitution are somewhat decreased.  Fortunately, the new school toilets were built and finished in August 2010 and were ready for the third term in September.  The Kenyan school year is from January to December.

The Vision Children’s Home/Orphanage in neighbouring Lucky Summer (a 20 minute walk from the VPM in Korogocho) has twenty children in residence with three staff and two supportive staff. At the moment this Home is within a compound of other residences with minimal space for the residents to play outdoors and be in a safe environment.  Bethany’s Dream Fund (BDF) is within reach of their goal of raising funds to purchase the land in a safe, spacious location.  With the intensive commitment of Bethany Rogers and her family, the future home for these children will become a reality.  We support you!

The VPM’s greatest financial need at this time is the ongoing construction of the Lucky Summer 2 housing project.  These units are owned and rented out to tenants. This local income   pays the salaries of the VPM staff members.  Their current units are part of the compound that   includes the Vision Children’s Home.

“Violet and I are very, very grateful that St. Anne’s can think of us in a personal way. Nobody else talks about Violet and Franklyn’s needs, yet we are the engine of the VPM.  Please, please very, very kindly thank all the saints at the church for their personal gift to both of us.”
