St. Anne’s honors Jan. 18th to 25th, 2012 focus with special service Jan. 15th and Powerpoint & resources for you
The roots of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity go back to the 1800s; it is one of the oldest, most widely observed Ecumenical events in the world.

A worldwide fellowship seek unity, a common witness and Christian service The World Council of Churches formed in 1948, brings together 349 churches, denominations and church fellowships in more than 110 countries and territories throughout the world, representing over 560 million Christians and including most of the world's Orthodox churches, scores of Anglican, Baptist, Lutheran, Methodist and Reformed churches, as well as many United and Independent churches. While the bulk of the WCC's founding churches were European and North American, today most member churches are in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Latin America, the Middle East and the Pacific. For its member churches, the WCC is a unique space: one in which they can reflect, speak, act, worship and work together, challenge and support each other, share and debate with each other. They are called to 1) the goal of visible unity in one faith and one eucharistic fellowship; 2) promote their common witness in work for mission and evangelism; 3) engage in Christian service by serving human need, breaking down barriers between people, seeking justice and peace, and upholding the integrity of creation; and foster renewal in unity, worship, mission and service.

The 2012 Ecumenical service for the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity comes to us from Poland (picture of Palm Sunday celebrations in Lyse, Poland) where an Ecumenical group has written a liturgy that draws on the experience of Polish Christians who have lived through times of joy and adversity. The history of Poland has been marked by a series of defeats, victories, invasions, partitions and oppression by foreign powers and hostile systems. In 2012 the European Football Championship will be held in Poland and Ukraine. This would never have been possible in years gone by. As Poland prepares to host the European Football Championship in 2012, Christians in the country have put the meaning of "victory" and "defeat" at the centre of their reflections for the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity

Ash Wednesday, February 22, 2012 Service at 7:00 p.m. at St. Anne’s with imposition of ashes
Then introducing Lent series with showing at 7:30 p.m.…. on Church large screen "The Prodigal Trilogy" (half hour length)
- a powerful multi award winning short film of 3 monologues based on the Luke 15 parable of Jesus, which is the focus of our Lenten study. Produced and acted by Canadian Toronto based Jason Hilderbrand, gifted storyteller, actor, producer, film maker and communication coach who currently is in a Canadian touring production of the hilarious and poignant two man show Fish Eyes. . featured in 7 film festivals across North America and won 7 Best Short Film awards including 2009 Best Short Film Jubilee Award, and audience choice award at the 2011 Moonlight Film Festival.

His Inspiration was a song by Keith Green called The Prodigal Son Suite, a painting by Rembrandt entitled “The Return of the Prodigal Son” and a book inspired by the same painting, written by Henri Nouwen, also called The Return of the Prodigal Son. Other great monologues by Jason are “Life of David” and “Herod the Great” If you are inspired, we can be sure to get these or book Jason directly for a show right here at St. Anne’s for our community! Blessings, this Holy Lent!

On Nov. 27th, Rev. Canon Janet blessed dalmatics that will be worn by Rev. Ken. Rev. Ken explained to the children the differences between what vestments are worn by Deacons and those worn by priests. Priests can wear chasubles, which are like a cape, over their albs while Deacons can wear dalmatics, which have sleeves. Rev. Ken was given chasubles that belonged to Rev. Canon Bob Mills, who had been a Rector at St. Anne's in the 1960s and had them made into dalmatics.

In case of Emergency!!!!
If you were in an accident and alone at the time, how would people know WHO to get in touch with???

Do you have adequate identification with you and does it say who they should contact in an emergency???

It has been suggested that you show on your cell phone directory listing a listing entitled ICE (in case of emergency)!!!   This way whoever is assisting you could simply call this number and quickly get in touch with someone who needs to know!!!

Take a minute and put this into your cell directory, who knows it may just save your life some day!!!!

Bibles for Stamps - Canadian Bible Society
Many thousands of used postage stamps saved by St. Anne’s parishioners are given to the society to help purchase Bibles. One pound of used stamps buys one Bible. Please leave at least a ¼ inch border around each stamp.

Why Cancelled Stamps are Important
“Recently, our office received some cancelled stamps from you. Thank you so much for collecting and sending them. They really do make a difference. A pound of stamps sold enables us to purchase one bible. Our vision is to reach every person with the life-giving word of God, and to encourage its use. With some seven billion people inhabiting the earth these days that is no small vision.” (Rev. Dr. Jeff Loach, Director, Central Ontario, Canadian Bible Society)
