…Words from the Bishop…

“Marian is one of St. Anne’s treasures, celebrating 100 years strong this year.  In the midst of health changes, she maintains her passion for life, interest and input into St. Anne’s with her invaluable humor!

An original founding member of the Western Fair Food Booth, with Anne Keam who is now 102 years strong……61 years ago they accepted the challenge of the Western Fair Board and local farmers to set up a St. Anne’s food booth to feed the farmers. Production of pies and St. Anne’s famous chicken on a bun, originated in Marian’s kitchen with minor incidents such as the time the pressure cooker blew up and the chicken was hanging all over the ceiling!

Marian, with parishioner Irene Sabine who died this year at 105, raised church funds with a yearly Springbank Park Smorgasbord, serving over 500 people.  She also hosted Food, Fashion and Fun Nights.  Marian offered leadership for many decades, convening the vibrant Parish Hostess Group.   Marian’s ministry has been outstanding. She has served well in holding the high ground of faith in adversity, joy in a challenge and to quote her own words from St. Anne’s 150th anniversary history book:   ‘looking back over the last 54 years, I feel a great sense of accomplishment, friendship and love. It is my hope that I have given back, through my involvement in the life of St. Anne’s, all that I have gained in faith and friendship’. Receiving well over 100 birthday cards recently, is just one way her church family say ‘thank you’ to this wonderful Saint of God.”

…“Keith’s life-long Christian discipleship has gained him much respect and appreciation at St. Anne’s.  He has served as warden, long standing parish council member, facilitated Alpha courses, First Communion classes, created and maintained the web site and currently chairs the visioning team. Keith helps with the Hostess Group and Welcoming team, cooks meals, assists with Habitat for Humanity and lends a helping hand at Huron Church Camp. For over 25 years you will have seen Keith helping set up the Western Fair Food Booth and preparing the eggs on the weekend breakfast shift. Keith’s friendly welcome, his faithful attendance, and his wealth of experience are strong ministry in themselves. Keith brings an insight and vibrant faith to the worship team in his roles as lay communion assistant, reader and extraordinary intercessor. St. Anne’s, and beyond is blessed to know this outstanding saint and servant of Jesus Christ.  Thank you Keith.  Please accept the Bishops’ Award for Excellence in Ministry.”
