Attention YOUTH:  C.L.A.Y. is coming…
Heads up!  In August 2010 there will be a National Anglican Youth Gathering here in London at the Convention Centre.  We’re doing this jointly with the ELCIC (Lutheran church) and it is called the CLAY gathering - the Canadian Lutheran Anglican Youth gathering.  It’s kind of the first event of its kind and we anticipate about 2000 youth from across the country.  This is going to be massive and you won’t want to miss it!

Youth need to be 14 as of 31 Dec 2010 so those 12-13 year olds this year can plan to attend!  Upper age limit is 19.  Meals are included in the conference fee (to be determined)
5 days of workshops, drama and music presentations, local recreational opportunities and main stage events/guest speakers.  Who WOULDN”T want to be there?

27Hours ATF  (Acquire the Fire) - bringing volume and clarity to God’s voice in the lives of teenagers. For more than two decades, ATF events have delivered:
• decision-making opportunities for Christ…
• Pattern-breaking challenges for living “real-life” with God…
• Future-shaping perspectives that help youth see themselves in God’s big plan.

The youth of our parish have the opportunity to attend the event of a lifetime in Hamilton on October 23-24 at Copp’s Coliseum. There, they’ll find the greatest worship bands, the greatest audio and video feast, and the greatest, most mind-blowing interactive ministry they have ever experienced at a Christian event. Why not join the hundreds of thousands of young people who will give God 27 hours at an ATF this year and walk away transformed.

Attention All Youth!
From St. Anne’s Youth (St.A.Y.)

Please note that our Youth program is undergoing a change in leadership.  Stay tuned for news or contact the church office for updates.

Previously all youth ages 12 to 18 were invited to join St.A.Y. for an exciting year of fun and fellowship.  Our group had a Junior membership for youth ages  12 – 14 (elementary school) and a Senior membership for youth ages 14-18 (high school).

Our group met most weeks through the school year, usually on a Sunday evening from 7 pm til 9 pm at the St. Anne’s Parish Hall, in our very own Youth Lounge.  We developed a great sense of pride in our group through acts of service for the church and community, spiritual growth stimulated by discussion groups and lasting friendships.  Most of all we had FUN.

Please join us!  For youth interested from other parishes please contact us if you plan to attend so we can be prepared to welcome you.  Any adults wishing to volunteer their time in supervision of meetings or events may also contact the church office.

Youth Ministry at St. Anne’s Fall Events

  1. participating in the Western Fair Food Booth – thanks to all the youth who helped and also came out to our volunteer appreciation night
  2. attending the Kid’s Alive Banquet Friday Oct 3 supporting projects in Zambia
  3. Oct. 17 was the U2 Tribute Band Eucharist at St. Paul’s which is posted in our newsletter with signup sheets at the church for rides.

The Kid's Alive Banquet - Friday Oct 3, Best Western Lamplighter Banquet Hall on Wellington Street

A wonderful opportunity to enjoy hearing of the work God is doing through Kids Alive, as well as opportunities for youth and adults to participate overseas or at home.  There is no cost for the banquet (although, the meal is a $40.00 meal) They just ask for a donation towards Kids Alive and for the past two years, our Youth have donated funds from their fundraising towards this ministry. We hope to do the same this year. After overhead, the donations go directly to projects in Zambia.

Nearly 1/3 of the children in sub-Saharan Africa are underweight. Forty-three percent do not have clean drinking water. An estimated 43 out of every 1,000 African babies dies within one month of birth. Five million die before their fifth birthday. That’s almost 14,000 each day. Most of these deaths are preventable.

The number living in extreme poverty in Africa is increasing and innocent children are especially affected.

The U2CHARIST with internationally known U2 Tribute Band, Elevation happened at St. Paul's Cathedral on Friday Oct 17 at 8:00 p.m. All ages were welcome.

Come and worship in a traditional church using the music of one of the world's most popular bands, U2. All money donated in a freewill offering at the service will go to the Dean's Wellness in Africa project supporting our companion Diocese of Mthatha. There is no charge to attend the service.

“The Cathedral would like to challenge the youth groups of the diocese to make an impact in our goals, and invite them to join us for this exciting event.  Any Youth Group that raises even $1 for the U2charist funds for Wellness in Africa will be invited to join us for a Pizza and Pop dinner, at 6:30pm, the evening of the U2charist.  (But feel free to raise more than $1 of course.)”

November event:
Movie and pizza night – Friday, November 14 @ 7PM with guest parishioner Major Brian Church M.D.  Dr. Church is an anesthesiologist with the One Canadian Field Hospital.  He joined the Canadian Forces in 1993, has served in Afghanistan and is presently posted in London.  We will watch the topical film entitled “Soldiers of Conscious” tracing the lives of 8 US soldiers today, some who killed and some who said no, who reveal their inner moral dilemma over killing and combat.

This award-winning film was made with official permission from the US Army.  It transcends the usual rhetoric of politics to reveal that all our soldiers are "soldiers of conscience."  Come experience a look at war, peace, & the power of the human conscience.

Update on 2008 Vestry appointed Youth Task Force
Our plan to offer weekly youth meetings is temporarily on hold  until our Youth Task Force, complete their recommendations for youth ministry at St. Anne’s, and report them to parish counsel   Our thanks to the Perks who worked with the task force to prepare September events and our Rector for our October and November events.

Coming in early December:  The powerful movie “A Closer Walk “. If any film can be labelled the definitive study of the global impact of AIDS, it's A Closer Walk, a masterfully crafted documentary that takes viewers to the epicentres of the AIDS plague, from Africa to Asia to Europe to North America.
