Helping our Cuban friends reach their full potential!
FRIENDS TO CUBA

           MATANZAS

In Matanzas, "Friends to Cuba" has been able to substantially assist this children's home/orphanage in central Matanzas. This large home has approximately 18-20 children/young people ranging in age from 7 to 18. Although this children's home/orphanage is visited often by tourists, "Friends to Cuba' has been able to establish a very close "official" connection and friendship with the director, staff and children.  "Friends to Cuba" can now work with the staff and administration to assist in providing regular supplies of much needed items for the children and the facility. In our recent visit in January 2011 we finalized our goals and plans to begin the list of much needed renovations and work projects. The first being to have the existing roof tarred and repaired and the windows rebuilt. We are also discussing the possibility of building a second floor to accommodate more bedrooms. If you or your friends and family are planning a trip to Varadero, Cuba please feel free to contact us and we will direct you to this orphanage, which is within a half hour of Varadero.

             HOLGUIN

Mark Chambers (volunteer with Friends to Cuba) has made several trips to this area of Cuba. In his travels he has made excellent contact and friendship with Pastor Edit and his wife Karinia. This pastoral team serve in an area called Melilla which is about an hour from the city of Holguin. Mark and Pastor Edit and others at this small country church are now working together in the plans for renovation and construction of the church and to continue working together for the community needs. This church is an "open air church" due to recent hurricane damage, but there is hopes that Friends to Cuba will be able to provide funds and resources to construct the walls for the church, home. Bricks are being laid this month and walls are going up with hopes to complete everything within the next few months. There is also a need to see that the washrooms are completed along with running water and a new roof. Mark is planning on returning to Melilla in January 2011.  If you or your family or friends are vacationing in Holguin, contact us. We'd be happy to direct you to Pastor Edit's church and our friends in Melilla. Contact is rbeer@golden.net
