May 17 (Thurs) - Entering a Seniors Community Part 2” - 7:00 p.m. Parkwood Mennonite Home 726 New Hampshire Street, Waterloo. Ted Giesbrecht (lawyer) and Linda Burridge (Case Manager, CCAC) to discuss challenges and issues related to entering a seniors community, whether that be retirement home living, long-term care or other seniors oriented accommodation. This is a follow up event to the one held at Nithview Community, New Hamburg, in November 2011. We hope you will join us! This session is provided at no cost to the participants. All are welcome! May 18 (Fri) - 7:30 pm Single or Single Again Group meets outside Nithriver Chop House for a hike around the Wellesly Pond. We will return to the Chop House for refreshments at 8:30. This is a social opportunity for singles ages 30's to 60's.
May 23 (Wed) - 7 pm – 9 pm Project Ploughshares is hosting a keynote address by Dr. Yousaf Butt entitled “Indefensible Missile Defence”, on the topic of securing the peaceful use of space for future generations. The event is co-sponsored by Canadian Pugwash, Science for Peace and CIGI and is open to the public at the CIGI Campus Auditorium, at 67 Erb St W, Waterloo. June 1 & 2 (Fr/Sat) - Youth Ministry as School of Love is a youth ministry conference at CMU. Associated with the conference is an intensive week long course that can be taken for graduate or undergraduate credit. The conference and course will feature Mark Yaconelli and Michael Hryniuk. June 2 (Sat) - 1-5 p.m. Work Bee at the Working Centre's Hacienda Sarria Market Gardens (1254 Union St Kitchener); Greening Sacred Spaces invites you to help with planting, seeding, moving compost and weeding (no experience necessary). All are welcome (individuals or groups; supervised children). June 2 (Sat) - 8 am to 2 pm - CROSSHILL RHUBARB AND RHUMMAGE SALE. Rain or Shine! Community-wide garage sales, a bake sale, fresh rhubarb for sale, The Rhuby Cafe, and massive Rumble Seat Sale in the church parking lot (2537 Hutchison Rd). Everyone is invited - pack up your vehicle with treasures to sell - we will provide the venue, entertainment, advertising, free BBQ and you can keep all your profits. Also included are lots of awesome children's activities, a free electronic waste drop-off bin, ALL THINGS RHUBARB, and much more. Come out and enjoy the day.
