Cell Church/Covenant House Network
"Everyday they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in thier homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those that were being saved." - (Acts 2:46-47)
There is a reason why Jesus disciples met from house to house. You see the Church as Jesus knew it was to be an organism, by which peole would come to know God through dynamic relationships with those who had come to know Him. Churches were to become a cell or part which makes up the larger Body of Christ. These "cell churches", as we call them serves not only to deepen relationships, but also to reach the un-churched in a personal manner. It is more than just small-group Bible studies, cell churches provide an ongoing network of relationships for new and growing Christians. There is no need to compete with the so-called organized church, because cell churches are in fact a vital part of it and serve as a living expression of what Christ intended when He said... "upon this rock I will build My church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it." - (Matthew 16:18)
Understanding Church
The above passage is the first time the word "church" is mentioned anywhere in the Bible. It was used here by Jesus, the founder and head of the Church. It is not man's invention or idea, it is solely the invention and idea of God. So we have to have His idea in mind if we are going to effectively serve as the church and fulfill the purpose for which He has establshed it. The beauty of what Christ intended was that each person would learn directly from Scripture and church leaders such as Apostles, Prophets, Evangelist, Pastors and Teachers were given and gifts to the Church ... "to perfect the saints, so that the body of Christ may be built up. Until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ." - (Ephesians 4:11-13)
Church leaders were not given to Lord over the Church, but to nurture it and help it to grow. Our focus is on the mission of the Church, not on personalitites within the Church. As followers and disciples of Christ, we want to touch our world with the life and power of Christ, that resides in us through the indwelling presence of the Holy Sprit. If the application of our Christian walk and worship is limited primarily to buildings or corporate meetings, we will miss opportunities to touch the lives of those outside of the traditional church.
Who We Are
We are not a building, denimination or organization, but members of the Body of Christ. Our Cell Church/Covenant Houses - allow believers to participate in the life of the Church and not just be a face in the crowd or a name on a membership roster. You don't have to worry about whether someone is watching to see if you are attending regularly or not. We are not only praying for the lost to be saved, but reaching out to meet the physical and spiritual needs of people in our local community, as well as, edifying the body of Christ. This is how the church grows spiritually, numerically and geographically. The goal of a cell church/covevant house is not to become big, but to multiply. Ideally, no cell church would have more than 50 members, because we want to keep the focus on the mission of the Church and not the church itself. "For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them"- (Matthew 18:20)
Get Involved
Cell Church/Covenant House meetings may or may not start with a song and end with a benediction. They may start out with conversation around the dinner table or a backyard barbecue. Laughter and stories are shared as members talk over life's challenges or daily bungles, something easily done in the rush of a Sunday church service. As the members bond and study the Bible together, the cell church becomes a spiritual family, where members can identify and cultivate their unique gifts, such as hospitality or wisdom. This is sometimes more difficult to develop maturity in a big church format, where sometimes only the public gifts, such as preaching or teaching are acknowledged and developed. The whole purpose of the cell church is to make disciples, not specators.
