Josuah 3: 13 "And it shall come to pass, as soon as the soles of the feet of the priests who bear the ark of the LORD, the Lord of all the earth, shall rest in the waters of the Jordan, that the waters of the Jordan shall be cut off, the waters that come down from upstream, and they shall stand as a heap."
This experience must have been really special in the Hebrew's lives. The time when they crossed the Jordan River stayed engraved in their memories forever. Still, it did not happen without any difficulties. God had given them the order to put their feet in the water, in other words to wet their feet and then, the miracle would happen, they could cross the Jordan river dry feet. It is the second time that this kind of miracle happens in their history (see Exodus 14:21-22) still it must not have been easy.
I can imagine the conversations they could have had in between them:
- What about if we wet our feet and nothing happens, we will look stupid … and wet!
- Yeah, because it worked once doesn't mean it will work a second time
- We will pass for ridicule… what about our reputation… and God will not be glorified …
We could be easily stopped when we think about what God asks us or when we analyze thinks through. To our human point of view, it could seem really dom. But it is only as they took a step that the miracle happened.
God asks us to wet our feet sometimes. To step out of our comfort zone, out of our routine so that He can intervene in our lives.
In order to walk on the water, Peter had to step out of his boat. In order to be healed, Naaman had to wash seven times in the Jordan River. God provided for the widow (2 King 4) when she began to obey what the prophet had said and damp her little jar of oil that she had left in the containers that she had.
Don't be afraid to make a step even if it costs you a lot. It could release the hand of God to make a miracle in your life. And don't forget, God worked a miracle AFTER they made a step and NOT BEFORE !!!
