Dear Cubbies Parent,
We are very excited to start AWANA on Sunday nights at Park Hill Baptist Church. This is a new program at PHBC and we will all be learning together. AWANA is a great program that encourages scripture memorization at a young age and gives parents fun, structured lessons to work on with their children at home.
There are 3 volunteers that will work with Cubbies this year. I am the director and we have two great leaders – Lyn McDade and Kim Conant.
I have included a schedule for the year. The terminology is a little different, but I’m going to try and explain…
A ‘BEAR HUG’ is the weekly lesson. This is in the workbook and you’ll work with your child on that lesson for the week prior to when it is listed. For example: 11/23/08 is Bear Hug 10, Elephant Walk 2, this means the week 11/17 – 11/22 you will work in the Bear Hug 10 chapter of the workbook. The verse for that week is “Jesus called them, and immediately they followed Him.” Matt 4:21-22. You will sign the workbook on pg. 43 that verifies that you worked with your child that week. Your child will receive a sticker on this page each week when he or she can recite the verse. We will also work on the verse during ‘Club’ time that night.
An ‘ELEPHANT/LAMB WALK’ is a combination of 3 weeks of lessons. Every three weeks your child will complete a ‘walk’ and earn a patch that should be sewn onto his or her vest.
The BEAR HUG BROCHURE is a starter book to help us learn the basics of Cubbies.
When the HOPPER TRAIL is complete your child will receive their first patch. It is the biggest!!
Our first week is September 7th. Please have your child to the Sanctuary Lobby by 5:20 so we can get them signed in and ready to start. We will have an opening ceremony and then go to our class. We will be back in the Sanctuary at 6:30 for our weekly awards ceremony. Please join us there and everyone is encouraged to stay for our Sunday Evening Worship Service.
Looking Forward to a GREAT year,
Amy Babb
