Scripture: Rom 10:13-15
Theme: God has given us Divine Momentum, keep it going.
Introduction:
This year we are declaring that God has purposed us to be a church that fulfills His will in the earth. Here we are already in March but I feel that the Lord wants to do some mighty things in you this year.
As we drive toward fulfilling the great commission of Christ, that is to go and preach the gospel to every creature, we will begin to see the power of God manifest in our lives.
You see, the power of God being released in your life is connected to the level obedience that you walk in everyday. We had said last week that the effectiveness of any church will not be based upon how anointed it’s leaders are but how committed each individual member is to the call of God upon their lives.
In other words,
- if you want to see your church grow,
- if you want to see spiritual maturity in your life,
- if you want to see the power of God drop in this place…
…its going to take more than me standing up here preaching sermons to you, but it’s going to take you beginning to get serious about your walk with the Lord. It’s going to take each member getting serious about studying the Word so that you can tell the world that Jesus Christ lives!
Call on Him
You see, the great commission of the church is given to you. When Jesus says, "go ye into all the world" He is mobilizing His church, but, He is also mobilizing each individual member to proclaim that God is calling all men unto repentance and that through the name of Jesus everyone that accepts Him shall be saved.
Flip over to Romans 10: 13 it says…
(Rom 10:13) For whosoever shall (do what?) call upon (what?) the name of the Lord (what will happen to them) shall be saved.
You see, everyone that shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. But you see they have to call…they have to make a decision for Christ. They have to hear the Word of truth so that they can call out in the name of Jesus Christ…and so, God sends you to tell them.
Look at verse 4: (Rom 10:14) How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?
There has to be some "on fire" Christians that love God and that are obedient to His purpose that are willing to preach the Gospel to a nation of people. But that nation will be reached one by one.
You see, we are to preach the gospel to a nation but we are going to reach that nation one heart at a time.
God wants you to reach that heart…God is sending you to reach that heart. You are sent by God with the grace to carry truth into the world.
Beautiful Thing
I said you are sent by God to carry grace into the world. And God calls it a beautiful thing.
It’s a beautiful thing to preach the Word…that why God sent you. Look at verse 15.
(Rom 10:15) And how shall they preach, except they be sent? (it’s an apostolic commission) as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace (peace with God), and bring glad tidings of good things!
Illustration
Imagine a nation that is starving, hungry and thirsty. Imagine, if you will, people that are dry from heat. Now imaging that you have been sent with supplies. You have been sent with food and water seed and meats.
The people of that town would be glad that you have what they need…it would be a beautiful thing.
- That is really what it is like to bring God’s truth to a thirsty heart.
- That is what it is like to tell someone that has never known love that Jesus loves them.
- That is what it is like to show someone who is lost that there is a way…
You have been sent. You are that preacher of the gospel in the earth…there is a nation, a son, a daughter, a child, a man a woman…waiting to find truth. You have to tell them.
Momentum
I believe that God is wanting to really move like never before. I believe that our God is on the go…He is ready to take this world by storm. There is going to be a mighty move of God in this season and I believe that we are right on the edge of the greatest move of God that world has ever seen.
You see, we have been born in a generation where the timetable of God is ready to be fulfilled. I strongly believe that the people of God are being poised to see a fresh release of God’s Spirit poured out just like Acts 2:17 declares:
Act 2:17 And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of My Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:
How many of you are ready to see the Spirit of God fall upon His people? This is exactly what God had declared that He would do and He has done it in the lives of those that are ready to receive His spiritual blessings.
But God’s desire is to pour out His spirit upon all of us…in a mighty way.
How many of you want to see the fullness of God’s power in your life?
Mighty is our God…and there is nothing that can hinder His purpose. Nor is there anything that can hinder His purpose in you.
You just have to hold on to the everlasting arms of Jesus.
Because I can feel the momentum of God beginning to speed up. I can feel in my spirit that God is creating momentum.
The church need some momentum. Momentum is the "quality of motion" of any given object. It’s not just motion but it’s the right motion. So when I say that the church is in need of some momentum I am saying that we need some "quality of motion." In other words, we need to get going
- in the right direction,
- with the right purpose,
- at the right time,
- with the right motives.
We need the momentum that is created when God says get going and we need to keep moving in His purpose for us.
Illustration:
I remember one day I saw a car stalled on the side of the road. I pulled over and began to push the car out of the road but it was hard at first. But as I got the car rolling I began to pick up some momentum and it began to be easier to push the car. But as I look up ahead I could see that in order to get the car off the road I would have to push the car up hill into a drive way.
Now there’s no way I would have been able to push that car up hill…but since I has a little momentum I knew that I could make it over the hump.
So I put my head down and began to push faster…creating more momentum.
God has given us the momentum…we have to grab a hold of the thing that Jesus did two-thousand years ago and run with that truth into the earth.
We have divine momentum. God got it started…God’s keeping it going…we just have to keep on pushing.
Oh, there’s going to be some bumps in the road but you have divine momentum…just keep on pushing.
Tell you neighbor to keep on pushing. You can make it over because you have divine momentum!
Faithfulness
As a church we have the momentum of God but we have to learn to push together. And we need to lock into the fact that:
"the momentum that an individual church has is based on the faithfulness of every member of the church."
- …Every member must do their part. Don’t make me push alone.
- …Every member must serve in the capacity that God has given them.
- …Every member must be faithful to God and to the vision of their church.
Faithfulness is a divine quality.
In this season, River, we are being called to keep the fire burning, we are being called to press on in God…don’t lose momentum…keep your feet going…don’t stop.
Preach that Word in the city…it’s a beautiful thing to God.
