Saint John's Episcopal Church
A sacred place where all, with God's help, can progress on their spiritual journey

CAMPUS MINISTRY

 Each year, colleges and universities offer many ways for students to expand their intellectual horizons, to develop a better understanding of the diversity of today's world and their place in it, and to prepare for the challenges of the future. But spiritual growth and nurture are equally important.  Students need a place to explore the riches of Christianity, to test their beliefs, and to challenge and be challenged. In so doing, they develop the resources for a more mature faith.

Episcopal campus ministry provides an important and unique contribution to a student's spiritual growth. In this context, students have the opportunity to more fully explore their Anglican tradition, while embracing and rationally engaging the diversity of human experience.

Dr. Dennis Pederson is currently active in bringing the Word of God to California State University, San Bernardino.

What is God's vision for us? What is God's vision for you?

"Where there is no vision, the people perish."
Proverbs 29:18a (KJV
)

Participating in God's vision for the people of God, depends on our wise and loving use of the gifts that God has given all of us.

Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of services, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who activates all of them in everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. To one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the discernment of spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. All these are activated by one and the same Spirit, who allots to each one individually just as the Spirit chooses. 1 Cor.12:4-11 (NRSV)

Discussing God's vision for St. John's as we read this passage from First Corinthinans, helped a church Bible Study group recognize some of the gifts present in the various members of our congregation. We pray that we will use these gifts wisely and come to recognize other people's gifts as we work and pray to build up the body of Christ within our congregation, and as we minister to neighbors and the world. All of us so badly need to receive what Christ has to offer us.

What gifts do you need in your life?

What gifts do you have to offer?

Aren't sure or think you don't have any?

Come and join us in a journey of self-discovery.
