Saint John's Episcopal Church
A sacred place where all, with God's help, can progress on their spiritual journey

James 2:8, 15-19

The scriptures tell us in James 2:8, 15-19;

You do well if you really fulfill the royal law according to the scripture,

"You shall love your neighbor as yourself."

If a brother or sister is naked and lacks daily food, and one of you says to them,

"Go in peace; keep warm and eat your fill,"

and yet you do not supply their bodily needs, what is the good of that?

So faith by itself, if it has no works, is dead. But someone will say,

"You have faith and I have works."

“Show me your faith apart from your works,

and I by my works will show you my faith.”

St. John's Community Success Center

Project Safe Space and English as a Second Language

ESL, under the umbrella of the St. John Community Success Center with Edith Yonamine as Instructor of the newly formed program, is doing much more than just teaching English when they meet on Tuesday's and Thursday's from 10am to 11:30am for classes. This new ministry has a day care program during class hours in order for their parents to be free to interact and share in the fellowship offered by this ministry. To sign up, please contact the  church office.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              PROJECT:  Safe Space

Our aim is to provide a gathering place for children in the off track program of the local schools , encourage cooperative behavior, and offer stimulating activities, is funded in large part by a Community Development grant from the city. It is well started with children enrolled in this free neighborhood program and others who come checking it out. We meet noon to 3pm, Monday through Friday in the Parish Hall for crafts, musical play, snacks and indoor activities. The children help decide the activities such as cooking on Tuesdays, the movie choice on Friday and special craft projects.

BAGGIES FOR THE HOMELESS

Baggies that contain personal hygiene products and a few other items are delivered to the homeless shelter run by The Salvation Army for the winter and summer seasons., they are always so greatly appreciated. Now we must work to collect more items to fill the winter bags for them. Please bring toothbrushes, toothpaste, mouthwash, shampoo, deoderant, bar soap, face cloths and towels, combs and brushes, pencil and paper, stamps and postcards, cologne and perfume, and hard candy or cough drops. Thanks for your great support.

RECTOR'S Pantry

Frequently we have a homeless person knock at the door and ask for food. We offer them baggies of food - edibles right out of the bag. Cracker and cheese packets, or crackers and peanut butter, boxes of juice, small cans of fruit, beans, applesauce, pasta dishes, health bars, pudding or jello cups, water - anything that can be opened by hand. We stick in a spoon, napkins, and perhaps some wrapped cookies. This is such a good way to share with others who are in need that you too can offer this ministry. Just fill a gallon size plastic bag and carry in your car. When someone asks for money give them a bag instead. You'll know that they will get a nutricious meal.

Many in the neighborhood have needed the resources of emergency food bags for their families to make ends meet and our parish distributes these bags from God's table during the church service on the second  and fourth Wednesday of every month. On the first, third and fifth Wednesdays of the month we  offer 3 pounds each of dried pinto beans and white rice. The full bags hold about $35.00 worth of food items that may hold soup, crackers, bread, peanut butter, lunch meat, condiments, spaghetti, cereal, milk and cheese.

LifeStream (formerly known as The Blood Bank)

Members of St. John's donate to the area blood bank throughout the year and we encourage you to participate in this vital Gift Of Life in your own area. This is a much needed resource that will only cost you an hours time every six weeks and the benefits are priceless.
