The scriptures tell us in James 2:8, 15-19;
You do well if you really fulfill the royal law according to the scripture,
"You shall love your neighbor as yourself."
If a brother or sister is naked and lacks daily food, and one of you says to them,
"Go in peace; keep warm and eat your fill,"
and yet you do not supply their bodily needs, what is the good of that?
So faith by itself, if it has no works, is dead. But someone will say,
"You have faith and I have works."
“Show me your faith apart from your works,
and I by my works will show you my faith.”
St. John's Community Success Center
TLC and Project Safe Space
The Teen Lamaze Class, under the umbrella of the St. John Community Success Center with Marsha Wilson as Director of the new formatted program, is doing much more than just pre-natal care, they will be meeting on Friday’s from 4 to 6pm for club dates. This new ministry will have the quarterly baby showers held between the hours of 12:00pm-3:00pm. To sign up, please contact the church office. PROJECT: Safe Space
Our aim is to provide a gathering place for children in the off track program of the local schools , encourage cooperative behavior, and offer stimulating activities, is funded in large part by a Community Development grant from the city. It is well started with 12 children enrolled and others who come checking it out. We meet noon to 3pm, Monday through Friday in the Parish Hall for crafts, musical play, snacks and indoor activities. The children help decide the activities such as cooking on Tuesdays, the movie choice on Friday and special craft projects.
Read With Me—Grow With Me is a reading program offered to parents and toddlers twice a week. Spanish on Tuesday mornings from 9:30 to 11:00 and English on Thursdays 9:30 to 11:00. Each child is encouraged to read and receives a book to keep as their own. With only six books in a household a childs opportunity to succeed in school increases.
BAGGIES FOR THE HOMELESS
Baggies that contain personal hygiene products and a few other items are delivered to the homeless shelter run by The Salvation Army for the winter and summer seasons., they are always so greatly appreciated. Now we must work to collect more items to fill the winter bags for them. Please bring toothbrushes, toothpaste, mouthwash, shampoo, deoderant, bar soap, face cloths and towels, combs and brushes, pencil and paper, stamps and postcards, cologne and perfume, and hard candy or cough drops. Thanks for your great support.
RECTOR'S Pantry
Frequently we have a homeless person knock at the door and ask for food. We offer them baggies of food - edibles right out of the bag. Cracker and cheese packets, or crackers and peanut butter, boxes of juice, small cans of fruit, beans, applesauce, pasta dishes, health bars, pudding or jello cups, water - anything that can be opened by hand. We stick in a spoon, napkins, and perhaps some wrapped cookies. This is such a good way to share with others who are in need that you too can offer this ministry. Just fill a gallon size plastic bag and carry in your car. When someone asks for money give them a bag instead. You'll know that they will get a nutricious meal.
Many in the neighborhood have needed the resources of emergency food bags for their families to make ends meet and our parish distributes these bags from God's table during the church service on the second and fourth Wednesday of every month. On the first, third and fifth Wednesdays of the month we offer 3 pounds each of dried pinto beans and white rice. The full bags hold about $35.00 worth of food items that may hold soup, crackers, bread, peanut butter, lunch meat, condiments, spaghetti, cereal, milk and cheese.
BLOOD BANK
Members of St. John's donate to the area blood bank throughout the year and we encourage you to participate in this vital Gift Of Life in your own area. This is a much needed resource that will only cost you an hours time every six weeks and the benefits are priceless.

Adult Christian Education Series with Sandy Koenig
In June we wrapped up our study on The Fruit of the Spirit from Galatians 5. It was a small group, but we were challenged each week to see the areas of our
own lives where God was calling us to allow the Spirit to bring forth good fruit.
In the end, we saw that the use of all of the Lord's gifts are built on the foundation of Love.
Keep watching for announcements of coming opportunities to study the Bible together!
There’s a reason Jesus worked through the small group.
Come find out!
Home Communion
The fellowship of communion with the priest is delivered throughtout the week and after the Sunday morning services,
however during hospital stays and hospice, appointments are made with the
Rev. David Starr.
You may contact him through the church office, this web site and/or his cell phone.
You do not have to be a member of this parish!
