The Episcopal Church of Saint John
TULARE, California

What We're Doing as our Part in the Hurricanes Katrina and Rita Relief and Aid  SEE BELOW FOR PRAYER CITIES

1) We have encouraged our parishioners to take this disaster as a wakeup call to be prepared for their own livelihood, personally and for their families, in the event of some catastrophic event in our area, which would most likely be an earthquake.

2) We have encouraged parishioners to be involved in local efforts for sending aid such as through their own business or employee, or school and civic efforts

3) We have encouraged parishioners to follow the Vestry's lead to send donations through trusted and appropriate agencies, such as Episcopal Relief and Development, the Anglican Relief and Development fund, the American Anglican Council, Red Cross, Salvation Army, or directly to the Diocese of Louisiana, the Diocese of Mississippi, or a local parish involved in distribution and care, such as Fr. Joe Rhodes of Holy Spirit, Baton Rouge, and Fr. Jerry Kramer of Annunciation, New Orleans.  The Vestry has designated the "10% Out" monthly funds for September and October to be sent equally to the Diocese of Louisiana and Mississippi.  The ECW has sent specific funds to Holy Spirit, Baton Rouge.  Individual parishioners have sent private donations.

4) We are praying as a parish for a couple of very specific needs, such as finding missing people from a particular parish, and specific perishable items to a community in LA.

5) September 25 will have an Evening Prayer service where The Prayers will be devoted to "Proxy Prayer" for the following communities (you can add names of hard hit communities by emailing us at stjohnstulare [at] juno [dot] com) .

Click here to go to Lambeth Proxy Prayer Results page, currently containing photos of the parishioners who were the stand in Proxies.  Strangely (we know better), only eight of those previously committed to attending were able to be there in person.  Most of those not attending were central to the ability of the small group prayer teams to operate effectively.  As a result, a great deal of time was necessarily diverted to explanation and training, and consequently only 8 Provinces were prayed over (as well as the Lambeth Conference as a whole).  Descriptions of the specific prayer offered will be added as the proxies complete their reports and submit them.

When a photo AND/OR the specific prayers of the proxy and prayer station are online, you will see the name of an Anglican Province below with underline link.

Each of the Provinces were NOT able to be covered in prayer on Sunday night.  So, much of the basic research for prayer will not get done prior to the prayer time.  If you see that a Province is not listed, and you would like to do the research (primarily, find the top 3 to 5 needs of the Province) just send it in to us AND commit yourself to prayer for that Province.   Take notes during your prayer time, and send us a copy; we'll include it in our prayer notes to the Primate of that Province as followup.
