BIBLE BAPTIST CHURCH, Herlong, CA
"Come ye yourselves into a desert place, and rest."

What is "Fundamentalism?"

The following definition of Fundamentalism was given by the World Congress of Fundamentalists, which met in 1976 in Usher Hall, Edinburgh, Scotland:

A Fundamentalist is a born-again believer in the Lord Jesus Christ who--

1. Maintains an immovable allegiance to the inerrant, infallible, and verbally inspired Bible.

2. Believes that whatever the Bible says is so.

3. Judges all things by the Bible and is judged only by the Bible.

4. Affirms the foundational truths of the historic Christian Faith: The doctrine of the Trinity; the incarnation, virgin birth, substitutionary atonement, bodily resurrection and glorious ascension, and Second Coming of the Lord Jesus Christ; the new birth through regeneration by the Holy Spirit; the resurrection of the saints to life eternal; the resurrection of the ungodly to final judgment and eternal death; the fellowship of the saints, who are the body of Christ.

5. Practices fidelity to that Faith and endeavors to preach it to every creature.

6. Exposes and separates from all ecclesiastical denial of that Faith, compromise with error, and apostasy from the Truth.

7. Earnestly contends for the Faith once delivered.

Who We Are & What We Do

Bible Baptist Church is an Independent Fundamental Baptist Church, with a primary mission of seeing folks get saved, baptized, and discipled-we win 'em, wet 'em, and work 'em! In doing this, we are obeying the Great Commission given by Jesus Christ, when He told the disciples, "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen" (Matt 28:19, 20)

We believe in Salvation by grace, through faith in Jesus Christ, not by works of righteousness which we have done. (Eph 2:8,9)

Baptism is the initial act of obedience by a new convert, but has no bearing on his salvation. (Acts 2:41)

We believe that, once we are saved, we are held securely by Jesus Christ, who has promised, "...him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out" (John 6:37)(John 10:27-29)

We use only the King James Bible, being convinced, after considerable study on the subject, that it is the perfect, preserved Word of God. Others have come from the corrupt Greek edition, produced in 1881 by Wescott and Hort, two apostate Anglican "scholars" who, along with re-writing the Bible, associated with such mystical, pagan groups as the "Hermes Society" and the "Ghostly Guild", and making affinity with Mdm. Blavatsky, the founder of the spiritist Theosophical Society.

We believe in maintaining Christian Separation, not mingling the things of the world into our lives and church. We witness to the lost, and seek to bring them to salvation, but don't join in thier sin, and the activities of the World and Satan. (2Cor 6:15-18)

Bible Baptist Church tries to keep the "Fun" in Fundamentalism". We believe that the Lord wants His people to enjoy the life that He gave us, while still maintaining a necessary soberness, especially about the condition of the lost, and proper Christian Separation. Our preacher plays the ukulele and sings from time to time; we have plenty of potlucks. We don't use contemporary "Christian" music, but we prefer the old hymns, like "The Old Rugged Cross" and "There's Power in the Blood!" We love them, because we believe in the message contained therein, of the old, old story of Jesus and His love.

 Our Pastor

Pastor Michael Reed was born into the family of God in 1972, at the Pacific Beach Christian Missionary and Alliance Church in San Diego. He holds a Masters Degree in Theology, received at Salt Lake Baptist College. Pastor Reed spent 10 years getting to know the world as a part of the United States Navy, and realizing that it wasn't where he was supposed to be, he answered the call to preach in September of 1992, while attending a Pastor's and Workers conference at North Valley Baptist Church, under the preaching of the late Jack Hyles.

After leaving the Navy in June 1993, Pastor Reed slowly began to prepare for the ministry. In 1996, he began to attend the Lighthouse Baptist Institute in San Diego, CA, but had to leave after a semester, due to an inability to find a job. Following what he believed to be God's will, he went back to Reno for a short time, then spent an unexpected year in Hopewell, VA, during which time the Lord began to place his home of Reno securely upon his heart.

Returning home to Reno, Pastor Reed vowed to the Lord that if Reno was where He wanted him, he would live and die there. It was as if the Lord then said, "Good, now that you want MY will, lets go to Herlong!" Two years later, the Bible Baptist Church in Herlong offered the pastorate to Mike, and he has been the Pastor since, where he uses the gifts the Lord has given him to serve the Lord and the people of Herlong, preaching, singing, and playing the ukulele.

While in Herlong, Pastor Reed met his wife, Delia, a local girl with a small goat farm, and they were married in November of 2003. Delia is a nurse, and holds a Masters Degree in Christian ministries, and has been raising goats, sheep, chickens and rabbits on her hobby farm since 1995.

Please, when in Herlong, come and visit our church!
